We had lunch at The Shack while visiting friends in Hot Springs Village, AR. I had the fried catfish sandwich and onion rings. The sandwich was good and the onion rings were really good. I sampled Cajun fries and French fries (from my husband and friend’s plates) and the fries were really good, too. The restaurant isn’t fancy, it really is a shack. They have reasonable prices for good food and our waitress took good care of us. They don’t accept credit or debit card payment so remember to bring cash with you. The restrooms are located outside of the restaurant.

This wonderful gem has been in business since I was in school at Jessieville back in the mid-70’s to early 80’s. So good then…hamburgers, onion rings, shakes, you name it! I can imagine how great it must be now! And it’s run by some of the finest folks you’ll ever encounter. I miss it!

Had I read the reviews before we came we would have passed it up because everyone else was spot on with what they’ve said. The service is terrible, the server is NOT friendly and acts like it’s an inconvenience to ask for a refill or for the food to be corrected after it was made wrong. My Son said “may I order” and before he could finish the waitress said “NO” he literally couldn’t finish his sentence. If you hate your job this bad then find another job. We will NOT be back. The other tables beside us had to walk to the front for refills as well and I just heard the lady tell her Husband “I don’t know what we did but that lady doesn’t seem too fond of us” they were elderly and they did absolutely nothing. This is a shame!

Had the catfish, $13.50 for 2 pieces. Comes with 2 hushpuppies a small coleslaw and a few fries we also had an order of onion rings. Check for 2 with one drink was $35…the fries and onion rings were good but sad to report the catfish had no flavor at all. Left feeling we overpaid far too much for a mediocre meal.

My husband and I decided to take a little road trip down hwy 7 south. We decided it was time for lunch and ran across The Shack, a quaint little dinner right on hwy across from Jessieville School. When we entered we were greeted and told to sit where we liked and our server would be right there. She was there in a moment with menus and took our drink order. We had decided what we wanted pretty quickly and was ready to give our food order as soon as she returned with our drinks. We both ordered the Shack burger w/cheese and an order of onion rings. It didn’t take too long to receive our meal. They were served wrapped in paper with the tooth pick on top and the onion rings were in the little paper trays; simple and no frills. It smelled delicious and when I took a bite it melted in my mouth. The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions were fresh and flavorful. The bun was dressed with mayo and mustard. The patty was fresh not frozen and you could tell was hand pressed. This is one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. The onion rings were crispy on the outside and tender and sweet in the center. Also one of the best onion rings I’ve ever had. The service was great and staff very friendly. The price was marginally higher than a fast food restaurant but well worth it. The only regret is that I was too full for desert. I see me and my husband driving the 50+ miles just to eat there again.

Ordered a cheeseburger and a bag of Doritos over the phone and this was my First time coming here but had to cancel my order because I didn’t know it was Cash only and they were Generous enough to give me what I ordered Free of charge and the Cheeseburger was DELICIOUS!!!!! Very Nice People!!!!!! I will be going back with CASH FOR SURE!!!!
