First time we came here, we got the duck breast. It was in the middle of the first pandemic winter when they served their food with plastic utensils and plates. The duck breast was so hard to chew and I really didn’t enjoy that. Two years later we came back and ordered the same duck breast dish with normal butter knifes—they are still as hard to chew. I have no problem with medium rare duck but what we were served was rare. Had to ask our server—who was really nice and attentive —to send the meat back in the oven for a couple more minutes. It came out better. Do not recommend.

Each menu item including the cocktails were perfectly flavorful, creative and passionate towards Spanish and Latin cuisine. The atmosphere was relaxing and intriguing, utilizing dim lighting and a modern design. The appetizer was a seasonal beet salad with both golden and red beets plus arugula. Main was the scallops with fried plantains, each bite just as rewarding as the first. If you can handle spicy I say skip the mojito and go straight for the mezcal old fashioned because it had the perfect bite and balance of flavor from smoky, spicy, sweet, and tart.

I truly enjoy this establishment and I have never had a bad meal or experience. The salmon dish is tasty and I believe the lovely couscous compliments it perfectly. I have had some delectable gazpacho and a beautiful butternut squash bisque with toasted pepitas. One of the better restaurants on the downtown mall.

The food was great, but the service could have been better. Several members of our party got the wrong food. The staff made it right, but considering that they had a Prix fixe menu with limited options, it was hard to see how it went so wrong.

We had visited Zocalo before COVID and loved it. The food and drinks were awesome then. Unfortunately, it seems it has changed for the worse since then. We went on Cinco de Mayo, a Friday night, at 6pm. Our server was training someone else and only introduced the trainee as her “shadow” without a name. We thought that was somewhat rude. As the evening went on, the server checked in less and less with us. The mussels appetizer was average and we eat mussels at almost every restaurant we go to if they offer it. The salmon entree was very good. The scallops entree was a huge disappointment. It was quite bland and the fried plantains were chewy and messed up the texture of the meal. Finally, I gave the crime brûlée a chance for dessert (another thing I usually get everywhere I go). It also did not taste good. The custard consistency was off and the temperature seemed off as well. I barely ate any and my husband had one bite. Later that night, we both had digestive issues after that meal. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to Zocalo. It’s sad as we had loved it previously, but the prices are outrageous for what is below average (and possibly not properly cooked/prepared) food.

Farrah is such a joy! Great personality, very kind & courteous. Sad yo oearn that it was her last day. Lucky us, we were literally, her last table! Food was good: loved the fritters appetizer, the steak, the chocolate bread pudding, the Grand Marnier berries & cream and the Mojito flight!!!

Nice balance of laided back upscale. Goo service and drinks. Wife and I shared an app and the duck. It was plenty of food and the duck was a stand out. Another (maybe old) tip is to get the pork chop special whenever available

For a cozy little restaurant in the pedestrian mall of Charlottesville, itreally puts out big flavors. Great spot for exotic spices in a very palate friendly and family friendly fashion.
