Acapulco is a family-owned and operated Mexican Restaurant & Bar serving customers homemade recipes. They opened 5 years ago in 2014 in the Borough of Raritan, New Jersey with one goal in mind; to serve Authentic-Mexican Food that cannot be found anywhere near the area. Two years later, Acapulco realized they needed to keep up with demand and so they expand and bought out the restaurant next door. You can visit Acapulco at 124 or 122 Thompson Street.

Overall a good experience. Great staff, delicious food. Nothing really stuck out to me regarding the Mexican food- the pastor tacos were juicy and seasoned well but just marinated cubes(not the style where they carve it off the roaster) and they don’t serve complimentary chips with salsa (other places do. I thought they did years ago)

Food was ok. Service was excellent. But we were changed an automatic 18% gratuity fee for a party of 2. We didn’t argue it since our server was very good, but I would recommend avoiding this place.

Generally speaking, this is definitely an authentic Mexican cuisine restaurant, although I’ve realized over the years I’ve been going; there are a few things on the menu not worth paying attention to due to their own lack of resources for whatever reason. One thing particularly is the “steak fajitas” for some reason they used ground beef??? But the chicken fajitas are to die for. Honestly, anything that is cooked with chicken seems to be great in this restaurant. My favorite and go-to dish is the Chicken Tacos. The salsa and guacamole are above average and the tortilla chips are decent but cooked a little too crispy. The verde salsa is phenomenal along with their hotter red salsa.

Update – so it looks like this place hits you with an 18% “ credit charge” and then expects a tip – looks like they are double dipping on the tip. Unethical at best.

I’ve been going to this restaurant for years and always loved them. However, for the past couple of years the quality of food has changed. The pork and beef always has lots of fat and makes it hard to enjoy your food. Sauces have changed flavor, has they are watered down. I Kept going hoping it was just a bad day. Hope they go back to the good quality they use to have. Not coming back anytime soon.

Came there on Friday night for dinner as it’s been highly recommended by some friends. First red flag is that I could not communicate with my waiter. When I ordered dinner I had to verify with him 5 times that I needed vegetarian. I asked for red sauce on my enchiladas I got green. He didn’t even check to ask if everything was ok. We didn’t get water with our drinks either and my margarita was purely mango syrup. The enchiladas were extremely spicy to the point that I could not finish them. It was straight up jalapeños and water. I don’t even know it was vegetarian or what but after that like 5 minutes after I left I had intense stomach pain and sweats. I threw up a few times and got food poisoning. Also I love how there’s a service charge already added. For what? The server never came by even after we finished food and never asked if we were alright. Don’t come here it’s gone downhill.
