It’s a cozy small place with two storied sittings & large outdoor seatings. A perfect place to drink & hang out with friends. Service is awesome & food is good. We had dinner on Wednesday around 8:30, kitchen close at 8:45. Quesadilla (liked it, not too oily), Bruschetta, Long horn chicken sandwich & Tacos – all items were delicious.

Great place for our outdoor lunch. We arrived soon after they opened at noon on a Sunday and the patio filled up fast. Seating is first-come, first-served. Be aware that the gravel on the patio is challenging for strollers, wheelchairs, and walker/rollators. You can choose from a variety of seating arrangements like high bar tables with stools, picnic-style tables, or standard dining height tables, most with umbrellas. There’s an area with games for the children. Nice menu and drink selection; prices are reasonable. Our Rueben, chili, and onion rings were delicious. We didn’t need bug spray, but you might during summer evenings. It was the perfect place for the train enthusiast in our group who enjoyed seeing the Essex Steam Train roll by. Shout-out for the friendly and efficient wait service. Looking forward to our next visit!

We went to Rusty Rail around 7 pm, and the place was backed with almost everyone sitting outside enjoying the weather. We chose to eat inside, at the bar. The bartender Brandon was a great bar tender and server. He was able to take control of the very busy atmosphere with a full bar and kept the wait staffs drink order going. Even though they were short staffed, like most places are you couldn’t tell. The whole staff seemed to be working together. Now for the food….Oh my, it was extremely delicious, I had one of their delicious hamburgers with sweet potato fries and my husband had the tacos with a side salad. I’m not good at remembering to give reviews, but I set an alarm to be sure I gave the Rusty Rail their’s because of how clean, organized the staff were and the amazing food. Thank you for making our long hot day so much better!

Stopped on a nice Sunday afternoon and sat outside. They had some local live entertainment which was nice. Service and food were great. The old steam train from Essex came by while we were there which was pretty cool. Definitely a great stop to grab a bite if you are out along the river. Highly recommend this place it has been added to our list of favorites.

This is an excellent place to play games such as giant Connect Four, horseshoes, and more, watch a sporting event, listen to music whether dining inside or out. Children are welcome too! The nostalgia is spot on! Always something to do or simply relax. The fire pit is an awesome touch.

A group of friends and I went to Rusty Rail on a Wednesday evening We were told 45 -60 min wait time. Ok, I get it not a problem. Then we were told ” Sorry, our waitresses are tired and we won’t be seating you.” Wow! Then they seated a 2 person that just walked in. I will never attempt to go there again. They can have the best food in the world, I wouldn’t know since I wasn’t seated. Their customer service needs some serious help.

Ventured to the bar here on a saturday night while I was in town. They had live music playing outside and a patio to eat on. I ate inside at the bar. Its maybe like a 15 person bar. Really cool train nostalgia on the walls. I ordered the Rusty Rail Dogs and a Coors to wash it down. One of the best hot dogs I have had in a while. Layers of sautéed onions and peppers with smoked bacon on top. Crispy onion rings come on the side.

Went there to see a great band play “Tough Cookie”, from 7pm to 10pm. The band was set up outdoors. The problem is, too many rules to follow…food only served until 8:45pm. The band was still playing by 9pm everyone was gone because the food was gone! The band played on! To about 6 people. Why hire a band to play for 3 hours if you’re only open for 2 hours and then cut the band off early because you have no customers? Live and learn. The food was okay…bar food, expensive bar food. Nothing to write home about . And of course cheap or watered down booze. I hope the band declines the next time they are asked to play there. Not worth the traveling time! Also, the rocks that the waitresses and the patrons had to walk on in the patio area. I can see a good law suit happening real soon! Very poor serving setup for the servers. One more additional comment. When we got there we told the hostess we were there to see the band. There we 3 empty tables up front (not reserved) in front of the band, where does she put us????? The last table in the back, then states….”you can see them from here”!. NOT, too many other tables in the way!. I hope the owners fix the patio before someone BREAKS something! Are you listening out there?! Definitely will not go back, I got a strong feeling of unfriendliness. Oh, something REALLY BIG I forgot. You can bring your dogs (AROUND FOOD) and some of those big dogs were very unfriendly! Connecticut is one state where dogs are NOT allowed in restaurants! Unless you get (have?) a special ordinance for it for that town. Wonder what that’s all about? Someone should find out if they are operating illegally! I’m done!

What a fun surprise to have seen an old time train while dining here! We thought the train theme was just for show- but there is a running rail behind the restaurant.
