I just had a lite dinner at Delhi Masala, and my experience was HORRIBLE!!! But not for the reason you might think. In other words, the food was good, not great, but passable. The problem was, as an African American visiting the heart of HARLEM, the waiter/manager never acknowledged my presence. Not a hello. Not a thank you. Not even “a please come again.” This man of color, whose skin was darker than mine, whose restaurant was located in the Capital city of African America, didn’t see me as a customer. But worse than that, he didn’t see my humanity. We have to do better.

Ordered delivery. Butter Chicken, Plain Naan, Veg Samosas, gobi paneer. All of it bad. The dough on the samosas was raw, naan needed more time cooking as well. Butter chicken had one, boring note. Really such a shame.

Today we had dinner at this place. I am Indian and it is very hard to find out authentic Indian food in New York. They had chefs from Kolkata, India. I love the food. Chicken malai kabab, lamb, Naan, Rasmalai , Samosa – ….amazing. Ambiance is awesome , cozy, romantic, beautiful and amazing. Very Clean.

I ordered kadai paneer, mango lassi, garlic naan, rasmalai and aloo tikki chole. I had aloo tikki chole first and it was literally chef’s kiss I cannot describe how good it was. It filled my stomach for three ish hours as well. The mango lassi was pretty good too. Then for dinner, I opened up the kadai paneer and it just looked bad. The gravy was poorly made by just looking at it. It wasn’t made with milk. Just a lot of residual water. There was a lot of onions and tomatoes. The paneer was cut in rectangles instead of cubes and the entire thing really had no flavor. It just tasted like water, capsicum, onion and sometimes paneer but all separately. It just didn’t go together. I was extremely disappointed because after having the aloo chole tikki, I had insanely high expectations. I usually finish my meal no matter how bad it is but this just wasn’t worth it. It tasted like water and the texture was bad that I couldn’t bring myself to eat the whole thing. The naan was fine. It was like any other garlic naan. Rasmalai tastes alright as well. I’m just sad that my actual dinner didn’t taste good and everything else did. This would be my GO TO restaurant if it weren’t for the bad kadai paneer. I wouldn’t order from this place again. Maybe go in person to have aloo chole tikki but it’s not worth with all the delivery fee and tip charges to have below par dinner.

I’ve never found an Indian dish that was my staple, I always try new dishes every time I order Indian, this was until I tried the Baby Lamb Chop Masala. I will never have anything else ever again. When I tasted this, I swear a tear rolled down my face. This was the best lamb dish, if not the best meat dish I’ve ever had in my life. I wish I could give a sixth star.

I went on Wednesday at 12:55pm and waited with a man sitting in the corner, on his phone, for a waiter. Ten minutes later, it turns out that the guy in the corner was one of the delivery guys. He never said a word to me or called a waiter out of the back.

Ordered the goat lamb curry and had two small pieces of podadle. The curry was very soupy and not thick as chosen when ordering. It was also not flavorful, I had to add salt. The naan left much to be desired, so did the basmati rice.

Took my dad out to celebrate his 70th Birthday this past Friday, August 25. He had a good time, the people knew him because he comes often, they were pleasant and the food was good. I was actually surprised at how good the food was especially since I’ve never been or had eaten Indian food in my life. Gotta explore other cultural food more I see. Food was tastefully spicy, not expensive and the wine and water was chilled to taste. A Must Come Back To. Enjoy the photos of my dad, myself and sister. I have even enclosed the menu.

This is a customer first restaurant. The host was the nicest person, and the food was amazing. Their garlic naan is so delicious, and I paired that with the tandoori prawn masala. OH MY GOODNESS. It was mouth watering.
