Shinsei is a nice sushi spot. It can get pretty crowded at lunch and dinner, especially on the weekends but the food is good and the portions are fair. We like to try different rolls when we go. My husband enjoys the yakisoba as well. The staff are efficient and not overly friendly but pleasant. The restaurant is clean. The parking area can be hectic with REI, Trader Joe’s and Petco just across from them. We like to go here fairly often

My wife and I have eaten here since they first opened. It seems that this year they really have pushed hard to do a good job by putting a lot of good quality food on your plate. And charging a higher price for it. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch. I always think twice about coming here for dinner because the prices are way higher in the evening for exactly the same thing you get a lunch. That being said the bento box is basically $30 in the evening is a grand affair with a great food the only problem is if you come in at lunch it’s $10 cheaper!. This obviously must be working for them because there was a waiting list 40 minutes deep to get in in the evening some more power to them.

We had the Eagle Eye, Amazing, and Spicy Tuna. The Eagle Eye was my personal favorite though the others were delicious; the Amazing was a close second. I don’t normally stuff myself, but the food was too good. We also had the spring rolls, poppers with spicy tuna mix, and miso soup. It was the best sushi I have had in a long time and the appetizers were right up there with it. Highly recommend.

Food was pretty good for quality and what i ordered. Which was a hard cider, veggie tempura, and the beef ramen bowl. Server was really nice and attentive. I was 1 of 2 or 3 customers when i came in and only a few came after me. Over all, it was fun to try this place, however i dont know if i will be back. It was extremely expensive. The can of 2towns cider was 4 bucks which is fair. But the ramen alone was almost 20. Even with left overs for home, i just cant justify 20 for ramen. And almost everything on the menu was around that price or more. It looks like about 16-20, but that doesnt include the meat, which is an additional charge that varies by what you get and was about 4+ for any option. The veggie tempura was good, but again, 9 bucks minimum for it. And it was an ok portion size, but probably worth more around 6 for the veggie option alone. My total bill was 32 bucks (not including tip) and that was just for me alone. And not even any sushi which is usually the more expensive option at these places

Well what can I say about atmosphere? It’s the typical Covid precautions our Gov set in place. The food and service are top notch. Not a lot of bells and whistles but great fish. Not sure on the Ramen as I have not tried it. All my fish and rolls have been delicious. My last “hand roll was soggy so I just ate the guts. Hand roll 101- make it and give it to customer quick. Needs to be crunchy. The chef made my hand roll my first visit and it was proper and crunchy. I will be back to enjoy more sushi! This is my favorite place now. Thanks Shinsei for hanging in there while Kate Brown tries to ruin the food industry as we knew it.

Excellent Sushi. I love this place. I have always enjoyed great miso soup, saki, and sushi here every time I go through Medford. You can watch the sushi chefs at the sushi bar make your order, or dine at a table. The Restroom are kept clean and neat.

We normally really like this place, but our last visit (1/14) was just OK. The rolls fell apart and were a mess to eat. The potstickers were ok, but not as good as usual. There seemed to be some dynamics happening with the sushi chefs too, which wad odd. We’ll definitely be back, as it’s convenient to shopping, but we came on an off night, which was a little disappointing. Normally very good.
