We have lived in West Ashley for years and finally tried it. A bit disappointed by the atmosphere and service. Place is outdated and needs a good cleaning. We were sat in a booth with a curtain that had spatter stains on it and visible dust on the ledge and pictures. Server wasn’t over friendly but to the point… The best part was the appetizers…. Homemade Caesar was great and tomato basil soup was delicious. Our entrees were lack luster for it to be authentic and fresh… chicken parmesan was seasoned, and lasagna wasn’t anything special. Cannoli was nothing extraordinary.

It was just ok, food was ok, the portion was small for the cost. It was lacking for the most part, staff, atmosphere, ambiance etc.. it’s convenient because it’s a different kind of meal option in the area.

I was in Charleston with my daughter moving her into her apartment at the College of Charleston when we ran into someone on King Street who recommended La Fontana. So we went and loved everything about it! The food is amazing, fresh homemade, truly authentic Italian food. We are from Boston and are Italian. Many restaurants claim to be authentic but are far from it. Not this one, we both ate our entire meal and had dessert after saying we couldn’t eat another bite! Fabiana, the owner was so kind to me and especially to my daughter who was having all kinds of feelings. She made her feel safe and at home!!! I know the food is what you are all most interested in, so you will not be disappointed! If I could I would give La Fontana 10 stars!

This small restaurant has the best Italian food. The service and atmosphere add to the pleasurable experience. I highly recommend stopping in for a delicious meal. We ate here on our last trip to Charleston (6 years ago) and I was excited to see it is still open.

Give La Fontana a try. Ignore trolls and snobs. Yes, Charleston is moving towards the wonderful, stylish, boutique type restaurants, but Italian is about the food. La Fontana is run by Fabiana, who is putting her heart and soul into this restaurant. I had the pasta Bolognese and it was wonderful. My wife had the tagliatelle with shrimp, and she loved it. I suggest you support a long-term, loyal, local business and not judge the book by its cover. Be now, be unique, go retro and have fun and a great, authentic Italian meal at La Fontana!

Very mediocre. Ordered take out, food was just okay. We’ve cooked pasta at home that tasted better. Quite expensive for the portion size and quality you get. I’m glad we didn’t eat in the restaurant because it had minimal ambiance and complete silence other than people talking. Not a lot of Italian restaurants in the area, but there are definitely better options than this.

I made reservations for a birthday party for my sister and best friend. We ordered drinks and couldn’t drink them. Ordered Martinez, they mixed with Coca-Cola sent it back. The second time, I didn’t know what they put in it. The staff was playing the blaming game. Terrible service and food was horrible. It was so hot and uncomfortable. We didn’t even eat. The food was so bad !! I paid the bill, which was $145. I will never go back

I ordered a simple Italian dish Pasta with Sausage. I complained to the owner that this dish was tasteless, it was like pasta soup, she didn’t want to hear what I had to say she kept telling me she was Italian and no one complained about this dish. I then stated to her I also was Italian and this dish was tasteless and full of water. she wouldn’t take the dishes back – when the receipt was given the bill was $77.00 (Pasta 18 + 9 sausage)for food we didn’t eat, I wouldn’t even feed my animals this food. I will never step into this restaurant again. The owner needs to learn how to treat her customers and listen to them and fix the problem. I also wrote on the receipt about her food and stated I did not accept her dishes. Customer beware the evening was to have a nice dinner out which turned into a disaster

Showed up with a party of 15 and they accommodated us with no problem! Food was amazing and honestly I had a few drinks so I’m having a hard time remembering our servers name but she was awesome! We had a blast and will definitely be back soon!
