Jay’s is a family owned business, where great care is taken to craft delicious,high quality Louisiana-style southern barbeque. The staff are down to earth and friendly. The eating area is relaxed and has a hole-in-the-wall feel and is kept clean. The food. Oh man. Everything here is delicious. We got a good selection of the food, and nothing was disappointing. Smoked to perfection and accompanied by homemade BBQ sauce and great sides, we all left wanting more, but incapable of eating more.

As of now, this is the best barbecue I’ve had in California. The brisket was juicy and bouncy as a proper brisket should and had a crispy bark. The pork ribs were tender and well seasoned. The smoked chicken had a very nice “Smokering” color and was smoked properly because the skin was soft and juicy and not rubber. The hot sausage links were pretty good, too. All the sides are good, but my favorites were the potato salad and beans. I’m not too familiar with different styles of bbq and their sauces but the spicy bbq sauce was sweet and tangy and went well with everything, but most importantly it was served warm, which made a big difference when dipping stuff – because the meat on the tray cools down after a while, having the sauce to ‘warm up’ the meat makes it much more enjoyable.

I don’t get out to Alpine often but this place makes me wish I lived closer. I had the daily special, Gumbo and added a side of cornbread. Rich chicken broth with chunks of tender chicken, shrimp and two kinds of sausage. Service was friendly and the extra couple minute wait for the Gumbo was worth it. Friends ordered ribs and brisket which were both tender and juicy.

Loved my meal. It was well worth the drive and my Husband and I will be coming back. Food was well seasoned but not too salty. The meat on the ribs was nice and tender and definitely not dependent on the sauce to be delicious!

Their food is amazing! They are also some of the kindest people I have ever met! I ordered for a company event and the food was ready on time and super hot! Pro tip if you order Mac and cheese do yourself a favor and order double the amount! It was a show stopper that everyone at the even wanted seconds of! So delicious! Thank you!

Holy brisket sandwich! This place was recommended to me by a client from Louisiana and, well…wowza. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the greens and brisket sandwich with baked beans. The greens had a nice subtle heat and the baked beans were sweet and savory. The pulled pork was tender and (dare I say it?) moist. But the brisket was transcendental. I can’t wait to try more from this place. Also it’s family owned and local!!!

Been going here ever since they opened up in alpine. My family and me have loved their food and you can tell they are improving the quality of their food every time you come back. Not only do i get to support an amazing family business I get great food with it too! Very good prices especially for how big the portions are. My favorite things there are the banana pudding and just recently tried the banana pudding cake and im upset i didn’t try it out earlier! Make sure you come to jays and say hi to the family and try some good bbq food, its the best in alpine for sure!
