Out of all the food stands at Mitsuwa, Matsui is my favorite. I’ve been eating here since we first moved down to Dallas in 2019, and the quality hasn’t changed. COVID-19 made a lot of the stands close down at Mitsuwa, but Matsui stayed strong during that time.

This place it’s not what it used to be anymore. The service was terrible. I ordered the chicken katsu don and asked why it didn’t have the eggs like the picture (as it used to be). They said you need to pay extra if you want more eggs.

I got pork katsu don bowl and the boyfriend got the chicken katsu don bowl. The chicken one was better. The meats tasted great on both, and the rice tasted fresh. The miso soup was alright, but the tofu inside it was really small.

I have eaten a many Katsu Restaurants in the DFW area, many owned by “kids”. The majority of them I doubt they serve real meat or at least the have a fatty/jelly additive that disgusts me.

Probably one of my worst experiences, the worker at the front Benjamin, horrible person. I accidentally ordered the Katsu chicken soup rather than the katsu chicken. I went up to tell the guy I made a mistake and he insisted on charging me extra $9 or no refunds. I told him what I ordered was be on accident. I don’t usually eat Asian food. The curry sauce was good and it was a good central piece of the whole meal. It had typical Japanese curry flavors. The rice was rice but it did a good job soaking up the savory curry. The katsu chicken had a nice panko crust and was simple like it should be to complement the curry.

I asked if the potato croquette curry was vegetarian friendly and they asked the chef and said no, so I got the vegan tomato udon with vegetable tempura. (My friend got the katsudon curry and loved it, said there was just a bit too much rice for the curry in her opinion) It was delicious! The tempura came with eggplant, kabocha, sweet potato, pepper, and more. The udon noodles were chewy and came in an oily tomato broth that was great, along with a little wakame, corn, and green onion. It was a good amount for the price and I would recommend this place in the food court!

This place is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace’s food hall. A great find! Food was delicious and service was great. Small chicken katsu combo for only $9! The portion is quite large and filling. Will definitely visit again.
