The parking lot is always full here for good reason. It’s a well know and much loved spot for high quality Mexican food. Picante turns out excellent burritos, tacos and fajitas using the freshest ingredients, and they make delicious fresh salsas (medium and hot) to augment the tasty flavors in every dish. The restaurant is spacious with tables and booth seating and the TVs are usually turned to a soccer match. Picante does a healthy take out business too and provides the home made salsas in a refrigerator for take out customers to bring home in small containers. Service is very quick and they will call your number at the counter to pick up and take to your own table. No waitstaff and there is a designated area to deposit your dirty dishes after you dine. Very efficient and excellent operation at Picante! Try it—it’s great!

This is the best Mexican eatery in the SF North Bay! Everything is made fresh daily and delicious. Service is friendly and warm, and everything we’ve ordered from the menu is fantastic. This restaurant is very well managed and the staff I see working here has been here for years- no turnover. Happy employees! Picante is a staple for good food in San Rafael! They also do a big To Go business, just call in your order if you’re traveling 101 or 580- very convenient location (be advised when you Google it that this Picante is in San Rafael, Marin County- NOT the unrelated Picante in Berkeley.)

Food was very fresh and authentic, which felt like a rare experience with Mexican food in Marin. I also liked that you could order at the counter instead of waiting for table service. Atmosphere was also great with a jukebox and Liga MX playing on the TV

I heard good reviews so i gave it a try maybe I went to early 9am I was the only customer there. I ordered the Machaca plate. I was watching the cook pull out a precooked machaca with egg and heating it up. I would think I would at least get a fresh egg with the meat. Well as I ate it was like eating next day left overs and did not taste right. Sorry But I was looking for something decent. I normally don’t leave reviews at all. But that was upsetting.

The super vegetarian burrito is good! Not the best vegetarian I’ve had however it is above average! Great prices too. Definitely not an expensive place to eat at. My mom also enjoyed her super burrito with meat too.

To Ryan Bauer, who recently left a 1 star review because Picante would not correct the problem without a receipt. Please understand, Picante has a policy of providing a refund or replacing the food only when a customer provides a receipt or brings back the uneaten food. This policy was implemented because they frequently had people pretending to be paying customers, trying to get free food or free money in a variety of dishonest ways. Picante cares deeply about their customers (especially regular long time customers), but they also need to have common sense policies like this. Requiring either the uneaten food or a receipt to get a refund or the order replaced is both reasonable and fair.
