What a surprise find! I was on the back my husband’s motorcycle headed to the Northern Neck when we decided we wanted a quick bite to eat. Someone had mentioned something about hot dogs in the area so a quick Google search found Sam’s Hot Dog Stand .04 miles away.

If you’re looking for a great local place to get hot dogs, North Carolina style barbecue, and great shakes, stop by Sam’s Hot Dog Stand. Great, friendly service with hometown charm. Love the diner style decor sidewalk seating. Will be back again soon.

This is a nice little mom and pop kind of place. Going in gives ya almost a 1950ish type feel. They have a number of small tables littered about and a couple of picnic table outside. At first it was a lite difficult to catch their menu/options. They have it up on a rolling screen that switches screens pretty quick. Since it wasn’t very busy the young lady took a few minutes to explain what they had. I got a chili dog combo my daughter who is pretty plain Jane just got a couple of plain hot dogs and french fries. Food came up pretty quick, you need to walk up to the counter to grab your food. My daughter and I ended up sitting outside at the picnic table. Everything was good, just nothing really stood out. Even my daughter who just got two plain hot dogs said to me that she thought they were okay. I didn’t think there was a lot of taste to the chili. The french fries even though they were hot seem to be a little undercooked, since they still were a little cold in the inside. They look to be just like regular crinkle fries that you pick up at the store. We ended up adding a little bit of Old Bay to our french fries to try this season them up a little bit. They did have a couple of other menu items and they had some homemade desserts on the counter. They had a sign saying they had milkshakes as well. If I wanted a quick hot dog fix I definitely would come back here again especially knowing what I’m going to get. If I was looking to have something a little bit better I probably would go down to City Dogs or Mom & Pops in Lakeside.

When I tell you there NC pulled pork bbq is the best I’ve eaten! Family, it’s truly delicious! They make you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. We’ll definitely return next week!!!

Still great! Laura and team are great…options for spicy chili and slaw and kraut…such a good dog!! Chicken salad is excellent! Oh and banananannana pudding rocks!! And other berry dessert they are testing is fire!

Since January have given this location 3 tries to get it back right, to how it was, they have failed the hot dog world and put out a horrible flavorless over cooked soggy dog, they have changes their slaw multiple times and are super inconsistent. Restaurant depot condiments are beyond subpar and they claim they are following the Sam’s franchise book. Prices are up quality is down super sad to say I won’t be back anytime soon. See image when hotdog ends blow they are over boiled, this flavor is washed out. Oh well Richmond metro is still in need of another hotdog shop that’s amazing.
