This was a small hidden gem, The outside gives only the barest hint of the quality and atmosphere you’ll find inside. The food was amazing, cheap and the service was great. I would go here again in a heartbeat if I found myself in the area. Really enjoyed the bean dip they served with the chips instead of salsa. First time I’d have been dip with cheese in it but it was a treat. If it’s your thing the guacamole made fresh is quite incredible.

Normally, I’d rate Puerto Nuevo in Spruce Pine at least a 4, but my experience with them last week made me rethink this. We ordered Chicken Fingers and Fries for my grandson (7 years old) from the printed menu. They came out completely overdone and burnt from the fryer. I sent them back with the server, asking for them to be redone, and a different server brought them right back saying the fryer was “broken” and would be “fixed” at 1:00pm. This was at 12:15am. She left on the table, although we declined them. They then left it on the bill, which I again asked that it be removed and suggested that they shouldn’t have left the kitchen in their ruined state. The server stated again that the fryer was “broken”. I say their management is broken. I paid the entire ticket and left a tip of 20%, hoping they can make enough money to repair their fryer, replace its oil, and adequately train their staff. It is a nice restaurant with great potential, so I’m hoping they just had a bad day.

Very good Mexican restaurant, it was nice and clean. We had good service and it was at a good price. I had the chicken and rice soup great on a cold day. Hubby had the chicken enchiladas plate which he said was great. Also they serve the thin crispy chips and bean dip which is awesome!

I was given a recommendation for this restaurant and was looking forward to some good food. The quesadillas I ordered were dry chicken thrown on a tortilla with cheese. I guess I should have asked if they came with vegetables. Very disappointed. The waitress had a complete attitude when I asked questions about the menu and pretty much throughout my entire time there. She also seemed to be that way with others.

One of the best Mexican restaurants we’ve ever been to!!! The food and the service/staff was amazing! Sofia was very friendly and took great care of us. Very kids friendly too. My daughter loved the fun music and the salsa bar. Please give it a try if you haven’t!

I ordered the oyster platter at lunch. Option of fried or grilled. I got the fried ones. It was served with a salad and choice of baked potato or french fries. Of course a basket of chips to start with a salsa bar. Service and food were outstanding. Nice large portion too.
