This place is run by new owners, if you used to get food from a here a few years back it definitely does not taste the same. The plain lo mein was drenched in some sort of sweet & sour sauce and it was extremely soggy and was not good. The Szechuan chicken was mostly carrots. The eggrolls were under cooked and only had cabbage in them when they used to have some sort of meat. The general tos chicken was extremely tough I don’t know if it was over cooked or just it had been sitting out for a long time but it was not really edible. The prices have also went up but the quality has went down. It’s frustrating because this used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Fredericksburg in my opinion. Now I probably won’t be coming back.

Hard to find a good Chinese takeout here…but we did! Had a special order leaving out certain distasteful veggies and they, well, got it half right. The quality and quantity of the food entirely made up for their mistake which I will emphasize on my next order. Yes, we will definitely order from them again which we won’t say for any other Chinese restaurant in the area. This is it. It’s a bonus that the owner is a lovely person, completely friendly, likeable and personable….see if you can find that elsewhere. Our new favorite for Chinese takeout. Two critiques: cut the broccoli smaller and use leakproof containers. Thank you Formosa!!

Formosa Cafe was ourgo to Chinese restaurant since moving to the burg in 2003. We typically spend over $60 per order and have always been happy with the food. We ordered food about 2 months ago through Beyond Menu. Saw through different online order sites that menu varied slightly (annoying). The worst part of our experience was the food. It was not good at all. We ordered extra, extra spicy shrimp fried rice with $5 extra shrimp. For the first time, I could not eat the rest of it. It was tasteless. The rice didn’t have the fresh taste and shrimp were soggy. My husband said it was under new management. I told him, I told him they need to bring the old one to include the cook back. Now, we have to find a new Chinese restaurant. What a shame. SMH

Normally we have a good experience with Formosa and I would give it 4-5 stars. Very tasty food! I’m giving 3 stars because the last few times we’ve ordered, items have been missing or incorrect. We even tried to make it easier by ordering online where the choices are very clear (type of rice you want with dish, spice level, etc) but even with that, the last order we got contained things that we couldn’t eat (we ordered brown rice with our entrees but they sent fried rice with egg), the spice level on a spicy dish was mild when we asked for some extra heat, and it was missing the one thing my kid eats. Although I will say they do respond quickly if you call them, we just hit that point where we don’t want to have to do that each time we order anymore. Something has happened with this place and the attention to detail just isn’t there anymore.

Had a great takeout lunch from this place today! Man at the counter was helpful and friendly and with our lunch being of generous portion and delicious flavors, would recommend that you try this place. Larger family orders offer coupons for additional menu items. Who couldn’t use an extra bowl of General Tso’s chicken?
