My son & I had been on a road trip for 13hrs and he was cracing Italian food. My GPS brought me to this terrible establishment. We hadn’t even fully opened the door and the lady at the front door said,” We’re not open until 5.” (With her finger pointing at me and 1 hand on the phone.) We replied with an “OK.” As we were getting into our truck, there was a clock outside my driver’s door window… I couldn’t believe it was 4:53pm. Really just 7min til opening??? They clearly don’t need business. Sorry we were bothersome

If you are local it’s a 5…but if you’re from anywhere that has classic Italian food…sadly it is a 3 for food.

I concur with another reviewer, if you are a local it is a 5 star establishment. If you have ate classic Italian food, it’s a 3 star establishment. Carmine’s doesn’t offer tea (sweet/unsweet) as a beverage.

Carmine’s Trattoria makes it worth stopping overnight in Walterboro SC. This is the second time I’ve stopped here while traveling. The food is excellent and service impeccable. This time I had the Chicken Limon and Tiramusu. Both were superb!

This was our first time ordering from carmines. We were going to have it delivered through door dash, but, by the time I got our order together, they had shut door dash off for their restaurant. ( I assumed they were busy) Not a deal breaker, but, definitely an inconvenience. I called our order ( 3 chicken parmigiana and shrimp scampi dish)in and the young girl on the phone was extremely sweet. I was confused when she asked me to hold to see if the “ kitchen will take my order”. She came back on the line to inform me that they would make it and it would be 45 mins. About 30 mins later they were calling to tell us it was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn’t busy which left me scratching my head as to why they shut door dash off and why the kitchen had to be asked if they Would make my order.

The service staff was courteous and attentive. I appreciated the generous pour for my glass of red wine. Apart from those highlights, the experience was unremarkable. I ordered the pasta Carbonara that I have enjoyed at other Italian restaurants. This preparation was average, at best, with no discernible character and an overabundance of sauce. For an establishment that promotes itself as authentic Italian, I found the menu presented the obvious choices without creativity. When I paid the bill, I was a bit surprised to note that the restaurant passes to the diner the transaction fee for credit cards. Not what I would expect from a restaurant attempting to operate as a finer dining establishment with the pricing to match.

On our way North from Florida, we were looking forward to another delicious dinner from Carmine’s. I stopped in to order takeout. They were very busy & shorthanded, but had a sign letting you know. We’d thought about their food for six months so I was more then willing to patiently wait. Nicole was friendly despite having a nearly full house. After checking in to our hotel, my husband went back out to pick up our dinners – chicken Parm with rigatoni and veal marsala with linguine. Excellent! I make marsala often, but this was outstanding. There was a hint of a delicious spice I couldn’t identify, but thoroughly enjoyed. The garlic bread with herb dipping olive oil was good. Best part of all, I remembered to order the tiramisu. Thank you, Nicole!

My wife and I are on our way to Disney for vacation. We stopped in Walterboro, SC for the night. We ended up going to this restaurant for dinner and I’m having serious thoughts of stopping in this town again on the way back just to eat here again. My wife had the lasagna, you can tell the noodles were homemade and the portion was huge. I got a filet Marsala steak special, I just can’t! Best steak I ever had, it was melt in your mouth perfect. I’ve had all the chain steaks, Ruth Chris, Texas Roadhouse, and a ton of family owned and operated. This steak beat them all. I called over our waiter and told him to inform the chef, it was the best steak I ever had. He said he would tell his father. We finished it with a lemon cake and cannoli. It all almost brought a tear to my eye. If you live here you already know of this gem hopefully, if you’re driving through eat here!

This one of the best Italian meals we have had while on the road. We take a lot of road trips and try to find hidden food gems in small towns across America. Carmines Trattoria is Walterboro, South Carolina’s gem. In addition, the staff were great!

Who knew you could get really good italian food in a small town in South Carolina. We had the chicken marsala and the rigatoni bolognese and both were really really good! Very nice inviting restaurant with a lot of regulars that were welcomed by the staff. Would definitely stop here again.
