Fat Boy Drive In Menu – Brunswick, ME

Type : Takeout Restaurant

Location : Brunswick, ME

Fat Boy Drive-In was originally established in 1955 as a 50’s style drive-in diner. It was owned by the Burton’s family for over 50 years, until it was purchased by new owner, in May 2020 who didn’t want to see its legacy come to an end. Our mission at Fat Boy Drive-In is to keep the nostalgic 50’s aesthetic that so many appreciate. In keeping things the same as possible, we aim to upgrade Fat Boy into the current and future times by catering to dietary restrictions, offering cashless payments, and hosting fundraisers to give back to the community. At Fat Boy Drive-In, we value swift service, consistent quality food, and creating a safe family atmosphere for our employees and patrons.

Old-fashioned drive-in with a nostalgic vibe serving up burgers, fries & American standards. Based on 940 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.2 stars. Price $

My wife is from Brunswick, ME, born and raised, graduate of Brunswick High. She grew up going to Fat Boy with her family, then high school friends, hanging out. Her favorite is the Canadian bacon BLT and onion rings sometimes with a strawberry frappe. We live in Fla now, since 1986, but we go back to her home state often visiting her family and never miss our visit to Fat Boy. The food is classic dinner counter Maine fair all fairly priced and very tasty. The lobster rolls, fried clams, hamburgers, Canadian BLT, and onion rings are go-to choices. I’ve never had a bad meal there over the many years, including this month. The drive-in is a wonderful throwback in time. The car service is top notch and the hops are young kids in HS or college and as kind as can be. A few recent changes: they eliminated the quaint inside seating to expand kitchen and prep space, and the car hops show up at your car window before you know it. You don’t need to signal with your car lights anymore, except when you’re done or need something else. They also use hand-held devices to take and transmit your order and process your credit card.

Born in Brunswick and have many fond memories of this place. So much has changed since the original owners left. You can no longer sit inside, the onion rings are completely different batter and appear to be frozen bought. Prices are roughly 55% higher than they were just 4 years ago. I was optimistic a few years ago but my most recent visit was a huge disappointment, barely anyone there for lunch on a Saturday. They’ve priced-out locals and loyalists. Workers are still wonderful and polite, just sad to see the new owners changes seemingly putting profit before all else.

We are vacationing in Maine fro Canada and stopped by Fat Boy by chance for dinner. The staff were really friendly and the food was tasty. Love the fact that you can just roll up in your car and order your food. My only complaint was that the onion rings seemed like they had been under a heat lamp and not freshly fried. Lobster roll was quite good.

What happened? The onion rings tasted dried out as if they were reheated leftovers. The mushroom Swiss burger just didn’t taste right and seemed to be missing the horseradish sauce and finally, while the lobster in the lobster role was delicious, the grilled bun tasted funny, as if the butter or whatever was on the grill was not fresh. It’s too bad for the great staff working there. They are cheerful and energetic and deserve to be serving well-prepared food!

We stopped by this institution to eat at a real, old-school drive in and weren’t disappointed. Service was friendly, food was tasty, and the joint was old. Cool.

I’m not one for posting bad reviews but after they changed owners I feel like people should know the truth. Been going here all long as I’ve been alive but once it changed owner from the Burtons this place has been absolutely horrid. I went once last year it was bad but this was the last straw. Fat Boys was the best spot in town for a burger and fries especially the onion rings, milkshakes etc. well you can forgot that now . Worst quality food we’ve ever had was tonight we actually threw it out. So greasy, bland and prices go up and portions get smaller. Plus the staff seems to care less and less each year. I hope this place can pull it together because it’d be such a shame to loss something that was a staple to the town community. Truly disappointed.

Visited when my party was hungry and passing by. I am glad we did since we found this unique place where we received prompt service by a smiling associate who returned within ten minutes with appealing and delicious food.

I’m a longtime fan of Fat Boy, having lived on their frappes as a teenager with braces. My favorite things have always been lobster and crab rolls, fried clams, onion rings and frappes. After the old owners sold the business the onion rings never were good but everything else was pretty much the same. I was so excited to today try them again! The fried clams were greasy, slimy and just didn’t taste good. The frappe was even flat tasting. I asked my husband if it was just me and he said his fish sandwich was very bland, the fries were also greasy and bland and also the frappe was not as good. Also my “pint” of clams (which used to be huge!) Was less than a cup! I don’t know what’s happened to the place. It was nearly empty at 5pm so I’m thinking the message has gotten out! $50 for really good food is one thing. $50 for meh tasting grease is another! The wait staff were friendly enough but never asked about our food. I’m sorry Fat Boy. You have disappointed a long time customer so badly I won’t ever go back until I hear something has changed.

Have been going here for a few years. Still make the ride up from Portland, heck it’s only 30 minutes by car. My late Mom loved it here,Crabmeat Roll and Onion Rings. I take my two kids as a way to honor her. Didn’t realize 4/23/23 was opening day for the season. Needless to say, they needed to work out a few kinks. Let’s just say,it took forever to get our food. I want to reiterate that this isn’t a bad review. Sometimes things happen. Anyway, people who just can’t wait to bad mouth things, try a little Empathy. The owner fixed our order fresh and didn’t charge us. Waiting on people is not easy,I’ve done it. I think the staff at Fat Boys are great, trying hard to do a Sometimes difficult job. So be patient and put yourselves in their shoes. I will definitely be back.

Great food and service the old fashioned drive in is alive and well here in Brunswick Maine and I am happy to know that. The taste and quality of the food was wonderful and I will return to experience it soon. The service was spot on and enjoyed a trip down memory lane. A must have for people who grew up in 50sthru the 70’s. See you there…
