They need to hire a consistent and good chef. The food I bought yesterday was not ok. The jollof rice was off taste. The maggi was crazily too much. The banga soup was watery and the goat meat was half done, but the poundo was smooth. The puff-puff was too strong and dark brown, I guess it was fried twice after it get cold. I wasted over 60dollars in total after ordering 3 dishes. I both dine in and also took out.

Just answering to a review someone posted regarding this place and was not true. No kidding, this is the best African restaurant you’ll find in the Montgomery County. I’ve been invited in the kitchen by the owner herself to see how things are made. I cam attest that they don’t use Maggie at all. The puf-puf is fried only once and always has it’s famous color and taste. I’ve been having jollof at this place for over 5years and I’m talking about every week. The tastes has always been the same. I don’t know what Banga soup is but I’m sure it wasn’t watery. I’ve had all the soups on their menu. The only soup that is watery is the light soup which as the name implies has to be light. I’d invite you next time you go there, ask to speak to the owner.

The food was delicious. The service was great, but the wait was too long. I would suggest a light appetizer during the 45 minute wait for the food. They also need full size glasses for drinks.

Ever since my mom and auntie moved further away I have turned to restaurants to get food from home. In the past few months I have tried A LOT of places in DC, VA and MD and this place definitely won. Their Cassava Leaf was perfection, sauce Gombo had me licking my finger nails even I live in Virginia but will make the drive here for their food again.

Visiting my friend in Maryland, she had seen the African Palace and was interested in trying African food. So we stopped in, ordered 2 delicious cocktails, the meat pie and Sampler appetizer which was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the peanut soup with fufu to take home. The waitress was friendly and answered all our questions about the different names of foods and what they were. And after praising the cook she came and greeted us! Doris the owner was so pleasant to talk with and such a good cook. She felt like family. The African Palace will definitely be one of my stops when visiting from North Carolina.
