This sushi establishment appears to be a cherished gem among locals, given its elusive location, but it is absolutely deserving of the effort to seek it out. Delighting in sashimi, tempura, and a chilled 22 oz Ichiban beer proved to be a splendid dining experience, particularly after an extensive journey. The serene and pleasant ambiance further enhanced the meal.

Love this little sushi shop. Reminds me of similar places in Japan. Fresh fish, crispy nori, warm rice and Japanese flavors and feels. Tamago was good. You can tell the tamago is made in house! Many sushi restaurants purchase and resell it. Bento was good. Tea was typical sencha you find in 寿司屋 in Japan. They have traditional stuff like various donburis, oshinko, tsunomono, hiyayako, etc. Small but cozy. No wait on a Wednesday night. Nice waitresses.

Sakana Japanese Restaurant in Dupont Circle is a hidden gem that will transport you straight to Tokyo. But before we dive into the food, let’s talk about the history of Dupont Circle itself. Did you know that Dupont Circle was once a rural area known for its farmland and orchards? It wasn’t until the late 19th century that the area began to develop into the bustling neighborhood we know today.

Honestly, did not love. the sushi felt like it wasn’t fresh (the taste / look of the rice, the avocado was kinda dark and oldish looking), and when we got the bill it seems to somehow be $10 or so more than it should be. Like we went home and recalculated and it’s still not adding up. Might have been a simple mistake, but feels strange.

We were lucky to stumble upon this place… Only a few tables, you have a view on the kitchen -always good- and friendly people. Food as expected: very good.

I’ve only ever walked out of a couple restaurants in my life. This was one of them.

Neighborhood gem. There is more to be said for a consistently good restaurant at a reasonable price. This is actually rare for a sushi restaurant. I come here for the sashimi but there are hot dishes as well. From outside, one can easily walk by this relatively small space. Inside, the long and narrow restaurant gives it a cozy feeling even without booths or partitions.
