If you only read one thing: Take an uber, there is no valet.

The environment is detailed but no-frills at this yummy downtown establishment. We had the sushi bar omakase and our chef was truly amazing. Expect to have to keep your eye on them – these chefs move fast and make delicious artistry in scant seconds. What they make will surprise you, melt in your mouth, and make you beg for more. We needed help to walk home and are happy as well as full.

Amazing experience. Most fun omakase experience I have ever done. Been back many times. Kevin and Gin are awesome! Sushi is extremely fresh, appetizer courses are thoughtful and elegant and options change constantly. I love that this place feels like you’re eating in your best friend’s kitchen. 10/10

Omakase is supposed to be at the counter not in a dining room. It makes no sense to do so and maybe it’s the fact I live in nyc but I’ve never seen a price point difference of double for that (in fact I’ve never even been given the option to not sit at the counter as it’s part of the expected experience). No sushi in DC is worth that when you can get better sushi in NYC at the counter for less than they charge for dining room omakase. I didn’t end up doing the omakase due to the disappointment about how they think it’s worth $240 versus $120 to sit at the sushi bar versus in the dining room. We ended up ordering some maki rolls and while the fish is fresh, the experience, service, and website all leave something to be desired.

Matsu set ordered via delivery service. It was promptly prepared and super fresh! The sushi quality and variety were good for its price at $60. Favorite was the shrimp, scallop, eel, and seared otoro.

Ordered take out from here – one of the top rated sushi restaurants in DC. They fly their fish in! And you can even buy whole fish! I got their salmon special and wow. So amazing. Freshest salmon I’ve had on the east coast, big slices, worth the cost. Will return and maybe do one of their tasting menus….

We ordered omakase and choya yuzushu (yuzu wine), and the omakase came with several small courses with a main sushi plate. The food was authentic Japanese food, and the service was good as well. However, I’m not sure that I would be interested to come back at this price point. (Follow me on IG ➡️ miss_dawang)

Absolutely phenomenal omakase experience! From the delicious, fresh, and flavorful fish expertly prepared and layered on top of perfectly cooked and seasoned rice (which is honestly far rarer than one would expect), the wonderful chef and the conversations I was able to have with him while enjoying the meal, and the great selection of sake to complement the meal, every part of Sushi Ogawa’s omakase was executed to perfection. The chef’s selection included enough food to leave you stuffed to the brim, but you won’t be able to leave a single piece untouched. If you’re looking for a delightful omakase in a relatively small, intimate environment in D.C., definitely give Sushi Ogawa a try!

Tasty but really expensive and I’m not convinced it was worth the price. Especially when ice cream was the final course. The service was not exquisite despite the exquisite price. Server started taking away my dinner companions’s plates before I was done with my fish. The chopsticks were the cheap wooden kind that you have to break apart.

We had the $180 omakase and were not disappointed at all. Nirigi and maki were all well-crafted in traditional style with fresh ingredients. However, we were more impressed by the work that went into the appetizers. Even the deceptively-simple chawanmushi came with complex and rich flavor that you can’t find in many places.
