This was my first time visiting Famous Fred’s. I was surprised to find out that they have been in business for 39 years. I thought the food was very good and affordable. On this visit I had the chicken snack basket which consisted of several piping hot chicken tenders, a biscuit, fries and a drink. My wife ordered onion rings to go with her meal and these were excellent as well.

Very friendly guy at the register. I was looking for a great homemade style breakfast sandwich. I received a bacon egg n cheese sandwich with folded egg (not scrambled) and tons of extra burnt bacon. Definitely not what i wanted or expected. Unfortunately i didnt eat the sandwich, so I’ll pass on this spot but your results could be different

Well Fred’s is not Fred’s anymore. Went in and the hometown feel is gone. The place is more like a soup kitchen they have gotten away from what made Famous Fred’s successful. The food is terrible. I will not be going back. Such a shame

It is what it is. It is a working man’s lunch spot. It is not a fancy Nancy froo froo la te da lunch place. It is open during breakfast and lunch hours but not for supper. They are not open on long weekends and holidays so if you show up and they are closed dont be surprised. Fortunately there is a chick fil a directly across the parking lot so you wont go hungry unless of course it is on a Sunday. I have been getting chicken from this place since 1987 and let me tell you the Chicken Bites Basket is worth all of the effort and inconvenience. It comes with a katchup/mayo mix sauce that is a must taste. I was concerned when a new owner took over a few years ago but he has really stepped up his game. He changed to a new type of bread roll that is better than the old biscuit. The cooks are great and all of the helpers that I have ever seen there have been good workers. It is a uniquely Hoover Alabama experience so I suggest that you make a plan and give them a try.

The food wasn’t fresh. They precooked the food then dropped it in grease when I ordered. The chicken was very tough and the fries inconsistent. Shocked they’re in business behind a Chick-fil-A!

Went in based on google reviews. Breakfast sandwich was good. Homogenous place, manager not friendly at all (but he was filling in for the owner), but kitchen staff were friendly. Had to work directly with them for options. The tip jar, by the way, doesn’t go to the kitchen staff so I gave tip directly to them. Will have to try the chicken before having a true review, but I don’t eat fried food. Prices are good, place is strip mall style but big. No outdoor tables so sat in a corner far from the people.

This restaurant and its owners are very generous and God fearing people. They opened their doors for a Bible believing church extension to have a Bible study each Thursday at 7pm. Come join us then come back for the food!!
