I had not experienced this restaurant and was excited to walk in their door. At first I inquired about sitting at their Hibachi grill and we were informed they have all the same menu items that can be ordered from a regular table.

I generally only review a place if they’ve genuinely impressed me or was seriously terrible. For my first time eating at Umai, the experience was outstanding! I had both their soups (I don’t eat too much salad) to start with and WOW. I am very picky about miso soup and theirs was outstanding. The other (beef broth) soup was excellent as well. Our server was one of the most friendly and humble guys I’ve ever met, very well cultured and a delight to conversate with. In fact my father and I ended up staying almost 20 minutes past closing just talking with this guy. My chicken teriyaki, fried rice, vegetables and noodles were just out of this world. I’m a skinny guy and usually don’t eat more than about half of what I order but I seriously could not stop eating everything on the table! By the time I left I had found my new favorite restaurant in St. Augustine and gained a great new friend, our server, Hendrick. Thank you so much again for the experience and I plan to reach out to you soon Hendrick!

What a fantastic place! Lovely inside and they offer take out. Generous servings and the food is delicious!! I ordered lunch through door dash and it’s enough food for three days! I have literally eaten here at least 50 times and never have been disappointed. Our waiter was so friendly and had us laughing the entire time. Even the take out portions are more than generous and so delicious.

First let me say I love the food here however, they have a serious issue with getting the entire tables order out at the same time. Even with only 2 tables of 2 in the restaurant they could not serve both of us at the same time. I ordered from the sushi menu and my dinner partner ordered from the kitchen menu. My food came out quickly and I had to wait 20 minutes for my dining partner to receive their food so we could eat together. When I mentioned this to our server/owner (?) I was told I didn’t specify that we wanted to eat together. Seriously? This is not an isolated issued.The pervious time I was with my family of 4 they ordered hibachi and I ordered a shumi appetizer which arrived 45 minutes later after the rest of my family had finished there meals, ended up taking mine to go.

Totally unassuming and really solid Asian bistro! I look forward to eating here as I just love the soba noodles and how they are prepared here. So full of flavor! The sushi I ordered was ok.. not my favorite but good. They have a “dry” beer.. and I really enjoyed it! Service is great too and they can accommodate larger parties. Clean and a nice atmosphere.

The sushi rolls were fantastic! I had the veggie combo roll and the St. Augustine special. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The presentation was beautiful and thoughtful. Service was friendly, fast, and attentive. We will be returning!

Food was ok. Service wasn’t awful but I didn’t get to see our server much for a refill on drinks. Had to wait forever for check. Felt rushed. This location might be better for take out. I’ll try again and update accordingly.

I really loved this place! We got the Love Boat for 2 and it was spectacular! The pieces of fish were huge and very flavorful. The sushi rolls were great. A lot of times at other places with this entree you’ll get one of the smaller, less expensive rolls, but not this one! The service was really great too. Our waiter was so funny and on the ball. This is my new go-to sushi place!

Delicious food and the sweetest staff. We went at a slow time so there were only a couple other patrons there and the service was fast. They were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. Most importantly, I have a severe MSG sensitivity so they ensured there was none used in everything we ordered. Food portions were generous and not expensive. Everything my hubby and his mom shared was a treat.

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in St. Augustine. It is located near my friends’ home and they love how it is never crowded. They took me out here in the past. The sushi rolls are tasty and filling. Prices are good. Service is great too. Definitely a go to place when I visit and move back to St. Augustine, Florida.
