This is one of Poughkeepsie’s best kept secrets!!! This place has the BEST JAMAICAN FOOD in the Hudson valley! Their food is made fresh and it’s reflected in the taste. I came here one day after my friend raved about them, best decision ever. I ordered the curried goat and it was the best curried goat I have ever had. I came back the following day and ordered the same thing! The service is also great, if you are looking for a nice wholesome family business to support AND get GREAT food, give them a try.

Upstream Cafe catered a luncheon at my daughter’s school, and their owners were terrific to work with, from start to finish. Shereen and Chef Garfield Salmon are professional, kind, and clearly talented at what they do, offering a wonderful variety of great dishes. Their Jerk Chicken with Pineapple Salsa, Stir Fried Vegetables, Seared Chicken Breast with the Chef’s Specialty Sauce, and Ital Stew were all flavorful and popular dishes, and their vegan selections were especially great to find when planning. Their cafe is also very warm and cozy, their desserts delicious, and the mac n cheese and chickpea roti are my personal favorites. Echoing the praise found in many of the Google reviews, I’d also agree that Upstream Cafe is truly a gem in Poughkeepsie. Thank you!

Such great service and warm + cozy atmosphere. The family that owns the restaurant is so kind and welcoming, and of course the food is amazing! Lots of veggie and vegan options too. I kept on hearing from word of mouth, how amazing this place was, so I had to try and boy was I upset, I didn’t try it sooner! What a gem! Sooo incredible, top notch cuisine of many options for vegans and meat/seafood lovers. The chef is welcoming of presence and culinary skills! Flavorful food and drinks. My partner and I love Jamaican food and have been to many in the area. We currently live in Newburgh but we were in Poughkeepsie and decided to try a newer place. I’m glad we did because it was so good! We are both plant based/vegan. You cannot go wrong with their menu. They have quite a few options and all I’m betting are tasty. I had rice and peas with cabbage and Oyster mushrooms and my partner had the roti with chickpeas. I like mushrooms and usually have texture issues but their mushrooms were by far the best I’ve ever had! Very tender, fresh, well seasoned and cut down into smaller pieces. When we first walked in we were greeted with a smile. Very inviting energy and you don’t get that everywhere especially these days. Also get the sorrel! Definitely will be back. I wish them continued success

The Upstream Cafe provided us with splendid catering services for a baby shower. Even though the event was miles away from the cafe, they were able to fulfill their commitment and the food was hot in temperature, tasty, and more than enough for our guests.
