I went to California Roll Cafe on a Friday night with a large group of friends (9 in total). The food was very good overall. My companions and I enjoyed the soup, appetizers, and sushi very much. There were some problems with our experience at this restaurant, as well. One of my friends ordered tempeh and received tofu instead, so she was unhappy with her meal. She did not send it back because she had already waited almost two hours for her food. We arrived at 6:30pm, expecting a longer wait time because of the size of our party. But the main problem was not the wait itself, but the fact that the serving of the meals seemed very disorganized. The appetizers were served to each of us over the span of 45 minutes, and one entree (a salad) came out with the appetizers. All of the other entrees came out of the kitchen over the course of another hour. It seemed in poor taste to serve food to a single table over such a long span of time. Some of us sat with our food on the table for well over an hour so that we could all eat at the same time. We will not be returning to this restaurant because of the long wait time.

Really good sushi with a great menu to choose from. I love that they have a kid-friendly sushi menu (PB&J roll, hot dog roll). The atmosphere in their new location is great, too. You’ll pay more for the sushi here versus some other local places, however it’s higher quality and much bigger rolls.

Wife and I visited Atlantic Beach for the first time from Connecticut. Read Triple A (AAA) review and decided to give it a try. Sushi was good as was the service, the AAA review was spot on. Had a very nice relaxing time; service was attentive without hovering. Finished with the black sesame ice cream. Recommend you try it too.

Many moons ago, way back when this place was over on Arendell, it was the best sushi I think I had put into my face. I was worried that when they moved over the ATL beach side that things might change a bit.

Always pleased with the food and service, California Roll is my go-to for feeding large groups. The staff are attentive to catering needs and the details required to successfully sustain a crowd. I have also hired California Roll for multiple private parties, and guests are always impressed by both the presentation and taste of the food. Thanks California Roll!

I had such high hopes for this place. We went on Wednesday and thought that the sushi was quite good. So good that we went back on Friday. I called at 445p to order the sushi and they told me that it would be ready in 20 minutes. We showed up at 530p and after about 10 minutes of waiting it became clear that our food was not going to be ready due to some sort of a mixup. Apparently, they had given our rolls to the customer in front of us and therefore had to start our order all over again. We finally were able to get all of our food by 625p. I was told by the manager that due to the inconvenience that we could get a free roll the next time. Are you kidding me? You order something for pickup and it is an hour late and that is what you were offered. I mentioned to her that this was not about the money considering that we had been there two nights before and spent $100 and this current order was in excess of $100. She stated that she didn’t see what the problem was and mentioned that based on her three years in food service this was an appropriate compensation. Stunningly, she said that because the delay was a result of some of her newer employees who were still training, that it was not really her fault and that was to be expected. I even mentioned to her that this was a royal pain since we had four kids at home waiting for us to bring the food back, but this was of no interest. At one point, it was clear that tears were coming despite the fact that we were simply having a conversation, not raising our voices, etc. Later on, when I went back because our bags didn’t have any chopsticks, sauces, etc., it was obvious that the tearful appearance was simply an act. She backpedaled and though she had told me earlier that it was only her third day on the job then changed her story that she had been here for about four weeks. She seemingly forced herself to get my contact information to give to the manager and of course four days after the events I have heard nothing.

My wife and I were ecstatic to find a place that knows how to do sushi. Not only were the staff friendly, the sushi was simply amazing. It is vegetarian/ vegan friendly also. Can’t wait to go back.

i used to think this place was great, but the manager ruins the entire experience for me. she has no interest in improving things, just rather saying whatever she needs to in order to get the customer out the door.
