We were looking for a local BBQ place and found Primal BBQ on Google Maps. We drove up and got out of the car and could immediately smell it. We hoped it tasted as good as it smelled. As a family, we ordered the platter with brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork, chicken wings, and four sides (collards, bbq beans, Mac and cheese, and sweet potato casserole). The food was really good but they didn’t have the wings so they subbed pulled pork. The brisket and burnt ends had more fat than I expected but tasted good. The pulled pork tasted great without any sauce. The sides were good but not great. No complaints but they were just good. All in all, this was a good place to eat and was authentic BBQ. We would go back again.

Good local BBQ place. I was excited to try the burnt ends but they were sold out. The pulled pork was smokey and moist with a small amount of eastern vinegar sauce. I wish they had a side bottle to add more. The slaw was lightly dressed which was perfect.

Best smoked meats and bbq I’ve had in Wilmington. Bought the Primal Platter Jr with bacon Mac ‘n cheese and sweet potato casserole. The meats were delicious and excellently smoked. The sweet potato casserole was delicious. The Mac’n cheese had no cheese or bacon flavor; just the taste of the flour roux; minus one star.

Most excellent pulled pork served Eastern style, your choice of 6 sauces. The baked beans are a meal in itself. Do not leave without trying the Mac and cheese! I’m not a fan of brussel sprouts but these are delicious. The staff are very helpful. You’re missing out if drive by this place.

I am a local. I have been wanting to try Primal for a while now, but just haven’t. Well since our fav (Moe’s) is closed due to a fire, I figured it was worth a shot. I went online and ordered a side of macaroni & cheese and 8 oz of chopped BBQ. I went to get it and while i was waiting, i noticed that the in-store prices were different, by a good amount. I paid $1.25 more for a small side portion of mac & cheese and $2.00 premium for the BBQ. The BBQ was pretty good. The mac & cheese was good, my son liked it, but the portion was no where near what a $4.75 portion should have been. The bowl was about 1” deep and 4” across.
