I think this is one of the best lesser known brunch places I’ve tried in Minneapolis.

Authentic Italian in a fun & modern atmosphere. A renovated bank makes for a unique and historic spot- peak inside the private dining room and you can see the old vault! The service was wonderful– food was good.. I’ve had better Italian food in the cities but the environment definitely makes up for this. I ordered the cacio e pepe which was a favorite dish of mine when I visited Italy. It came out of the kitchen warm, not hot. This dish must be served hot! It also lacked fresh cracked pepper. Lastly, I’m very surprised they didn’t serve complementary bread to the table, would have been good with my meal. I also tried the pappardelle pasta and a pizza which were better than my meal.

I went last night for the second time. The space is absolutely stunning, and beautifully designed down to the smallest detail. Their menu offers gluten free and vegetarian options, which is great. On both occasions they were understaffed (2-3 servers for the entire restaurant) on a Saturday evening. My previous visit there were two servers, and one of them was working his first ever restaurant shift. Our table was forgotten about for about 15 minutes until we asked for service. The drinks were nice and strong and their bar menu was well rounded, and even had a few NA cocktails. The wrong dish was brought to me both visits. The first time the risotto had cheese after I was told they could do it without, when the second dish came out the rice was hard, not firm, but stick in your teeth, difficult to chew, hard. Last night I ordered a panzanella salad, was brought pasta instead , then received a salad with wilted, unclean, barely cut lettuce with 6 croutons and a pile of red onions. This $17 salad left me very dissatisfied, but their focaccia was delicious and made enough of a meal, I guess. The server didn’t return to ask about how our food tasted, though had time to talk about their difficult POS for several minutes when he couldn’t split our bill. All in all, the space is nice and would make for a cool space to grab a cocktail before a show, though I’d pass on dinner due to it being poorly managed in both front and back of house.

Absolutely unbelievable. With modern takes on classical dishes, Giulia gave me everything I wanted in an upscale Italian dining experience and then some. The aesthetic of the restaurant is chic with historical homages and the staff is tremendous, however it’s the food that shines the most. The Suppli, Ragu, and Frangipane were each fresh, robust in flavor, and unique in experience bringing back memories of Italian food that my Mom made me growing up. Atop all of that is an excellent bar selection. I could not recommend enough and I will be back.

My second time dining here. Tried the table side pulled mozzarella this time around. Great experience and a very tasty appetizer. Love the signature cocktails and service is amazing. Food was pretty good. I got the fettuccine verde and highly recommend this dish! Beautiful atmosphere and location as well.

We recently stayed at the Emery Hotel and decided to try the new brunch offering at Giulia. First of all, the entire first floor of the Emery Hotel is stunning, and Giulia is no exception. The mix of blue tile, dark woods, marble pillars, coffered ceilings and the open kitchen with a blazing oven created a memorable ambiance.

Since I have tried many Italian food places in the Twin Cities area, I will say that Giulia is a solid option but comes up just slightly short. The funghi pizza was good but was slightly salty and was too expensive for its size. The oven-fired focaccia was a solid choice and the pomodoro sauce complemented the bread very well. Pasta-wise, I got the fettuccine verde, which my friend liked but I thought it was way too salty. But I did think that the spinach poppyseed pasta was very well-made! It was easy to tell it was made on the spot and tasted very fresh. The pappardelle tasted pretty good, and it was pretty hard to go wrong with that option since it had pork ragu and tomato. The seafood cavatelli could be better as I thought the seafood’s flavor and the pasta’s flavor (along with its sauce) did not mesh well, causing the seafood to taste like its own thing instead of in synchrony with the pasta. We ordered two desserts, the chocolate panna cotta and the almond frangipane. Both were solid 10/10 and would definitely recommend! Overall it was a good experience and satisfied my food curiosity for the place!

Visited Giulia on Christmas day. It was packed, but that is to be expected with only 3 restaurants listed as available on Dec 25 on OpenTable in Downtown Minneapolis. Of the three, Giulia listed Christmas meal specials. I was a little sad that the braised beef shortrib was sold out by our 5pm reservation time. When I RSVP’d on OpenTable, I had indicated that we would be eating the Christmas meals. My son did love the rack of lamb special. I enjoyed my seafood cavatelli. The focaccia was the best we have ever had. My husband’s green pasta dish was not that great. My grapefruit “dove” cocktail was very nice. But the Dodger was meh and my husband’s drink (I forget — bourbon based) was undrinkable. I loved the almond base dessert with blueberry compote. Service was reasonable for a packed Christmas day but not able to spend the time to get it to a five star experience. I recommend eating here but get an experienced server to discuss your preferences while you are ordering. The restaurant should totally plan for a surplus of serving staff on Christmas day in order to prevent chaos.

If it was not for a terrible lunch I had on the same day, I did not plan to dine here during my MSP vacation. At the recommendation of one of Emery’s general managers, I figured I would have dinner here on the last day of my vacation. I spoke with their executive chef briefly before sitting down for my dinner and him being relatively new (started in May 2022) showed in my main dish. I ordered their seafood cavatelli and it would have been a great dish had it not been so darn salty! I saw another recent review about a negative experience with their hostess and the same happened to me – when I made a reservation, she never asked for my name… When I arrived and told a host staff that I was there for my reservation, I was not the least bit surprised he could not find it. Compared to my dinner at Ciao bella, this Italian dinner was a disappointment given that you pretty much spend the same amount of money at both places. Good cocktail and the high level of service provided by their wait staff saved my dining experience.

My husband booked dinner reservations here out of the blue for a random Monday night. Because of the MLK holiday and it faking on a Monday we were able to street park kitty-corner from the restaurant. Walking in and taking in the atmosphere my immediate thought was that this was an upscale, hip locale. Repurposing an old bank compete with marble toned columns and vault doors, this space is utilized fantastically. The dark tile set behind and around the open kitchen is a great contrast to the marble walls. Open wood and pipe shelving with lots of greenery brings a light and modern feel breaking up the space. Despite being a marble hall, the sound is well balanced and not loud. Some additional thought and planning could have gone in to the bathrooms as the restaurant does not have their own but shares with the hotel lobby. Having to cross the entire lobby to the front doors to use the facilities is not how I would prefer to wash my hands but the bathrooms were clean and matched the overall decor.
