You walk into what looks like a BBQ restaurant because well, it IS a BBQ restaurant. You’re greeted with a smile and immediately taken care of. They sit you down with a menu and take your drink order. Your server is back quickly with your drink and to ask if you need more time to decide on your meal. You order and your server is off with a smile. Appetizer comes back in 5 minutes or so. You chit chat about their BBQ sauce to which they bring out all three (Kansas mustard based. Original/Sweet/Spicy. All said to be made in-house). Your meal comes out around 5-10 minutes later and you are asked if you need a refill or anything else. The server checks on you, with a smile, every other time they pass you. They ask if you need a box to go. Then ask about dessert or any last choices. Depending on your choice here will be ticket time or not. Dessert doesn’t take long either. I had the apple crisp a-la-mode. Was really good. Plenty of apple. Plenty of crisp. Creamy vanilla ice cream on top. You’re offered a drink to go as you pay your bill. They thank you and tell you to come back and see them.

Not Texas BBQ. Not Memphis BBQ. Not Carolina BBQ. They have a flavor all their own.

It won’t win any awards where I come from but if you’re hungry it’ll do it’s a bit pricey for what you get. I got the sliced, beef beans and potato salad. Sliced beef was a little tough and was pretty tasteless without the barbecue sauce. The beans were cooked correctly but could have used some spices. The potato salad was probably the best but of course you could always add eggs onion bacon bits etc to it to make it better.

I do want to preference this review by saying I am from TX. I got one meat plate which came with rolls, beans, and two sides; I chose brisket for my meat, and for my sides, I got Mac and Cheese and corn. The Mac and cheese was dry, and I like my Mac and Cheese saucy but still enjoyed it. The beans weren’t sweet like I’m used to; however, the beans were excellent. My one gripe is the BBQ sauces, they all contained mustard, and I wasn’t a fan. Overall I’d still give them 4.6 stars.

It’s a really nice place to stop for a good southern barbeque, salad or appetizer that makes a great meal. If you have room for dessert, they make a delicious cobbler… Always have to stop on the way home from a business trip.

I must have gone on a bad night. The pork was very dry and flavorless, the “smoked” mac and cheese was not at all smoked but what you would expect to find on a mid level buffet. French fries were cold and soggy. Service was pretty good and the place was clean and friendly.

For those visiting from TX I think it’s worth noting that the sauces have mustard in them. The beans and fries were great. The brisket was good, but I wish I hadn’t gotten the ribs.

We came to visit Carlsbad for the weekend and wanted to eat dinner somewhere so we came here. This was a very disappointing experience. We got seated immediately which was great and ordered quickly. The beans were extremely bland, my husbands brisket was grey and VERY tough (he had to cut it with a knife). My sons Mac and cheese was disgusting. When the waitress came to take our plates, she noticed my husband didn’t eat the brisket, she told us we should have said something. However she never came to check on us for us to tell her. We both decided to order the sourdough cherry cobbler. My husbands was cold, mine was warm on one side and cold on the other. It was just not good and we couldn’t finish it. After spending entirely way too much money here, we will never eat here or recommend it to anyone.
