Backstreet Bagel Company began as Backstreet Bagel & Deli in 1996 with a dream to bring genuine East Coast bagels to the mountains of Western Colorado.
25 years later we still take pride in our authentic New York style bagels and signature coffee drinks. We stubbornly believe bagels are meant to be made from scratch. And that they should be eaten the same day they are baked. So we get up before everyone to bake at least 15 flavors of bagels every single morning.
We believe our bagels are the best in the world. Maybe it’s the water that melts straight off the San Juan peaks. Or the arid high desert climate that creates a perfect environment for aging the dough. Or maybe it’s just the love we put into our work at Backstreet Bagel Company.

We ordered food that took ages to come out even though it didn’t seem very busy (they were also mostly out of bagels for sandwiches by 1pm). By the time they started on our order we were told they were out of roast beef. I get that it’s no one’s fault, but just made for quite the unpleasant experience. We got the chicken salad sandwiches and they were incredibly bland, literally seemed like it was just chicken mixed with mayo with a very small amount of honey mustard. And it all definitely seemed overpriced for what we got. The ladies that worked there were nice enough, but it seems like management needs to figure out a way to streamline their process since it looked like everyone was waiting pretty long for their orders.

I love how friendly and helpful everyone is here and how absolutely delicious everything is! From coffee to bagels, you seriously can’t go wrong. The Cafe mocha coffee is just to die for and I definitely found my new spot. The coffee is fresh and made to order and not bitter or burnt tasting, which seems hard to find these days. I have so many good things to say about this place and now, I’m actually looking forward to waking up early just to head over for a piping hot cup of coffee (and a bagel)!

I live in Denver, but am always excited when travels take me through Montrose exclusively for the fact that I get to pickup bagels and coffee here. Fantastic lattes, and by far the best bagels I’ve had most anywhere. The bagels are fresh with a wide variety, the bagel and wishes are delicious and filling, and the service is always on point.

The owner asked for me to elaborate on my review, so here goes. My service was mediocre at best felt like I was a nusciance to them, the girl making the smoothie was the exception, she was super friendly. My bagel was excellent, but the eggs, sausage and cheese just ok. My order was to go and my bagel sandwich wasn’t even put into a bag and I didn’t want to adk for a bag since it wasn’t exactly a friendly atmosphere. May give you all another shot but then again maybe not. I want to go into a restaurant and be made to feel like they appreciated my business, certainly didn’t feel that.

This spot is an absolute gem! I haven’t lived in Montrose for 10 years and I still make a point to stop here when driving through. Bagels are the best I’ve ever had. The coffee is really good too. Whatever fresh baked goods they have always are a delicious. They’ve been consistent all these years.

Showed up today (Monday, 6/26) at 2:26 – 3 people inside. Door clearly states that they close at 2:30, but weren’t willing to help me. Hopefully the owners are Cool with you guys closing early and not serving people. I was about to buy 10 smoothies… will not be coming back.

Stumbled upon this family owned breakfast joint after hearing rave reviews about it from friends. Staff makes you feel like family, and every bite of my everything breakfast bagel sando had me declaring “THIS is the single best bite of breakfast I’ve ever had.” I can tell the owners pride themselves on using only the most quality of ingredients, without skimping on quantity. My husbands Roast Beef sandwich was piled high with incredible shaved meat, and we made sure to buy a bakers dozen bagels to take home (we froze them to preserve their freshness, as they HAND MAKE them daily with no preservatives or fillers). Can’t wait to drive through Montrose once again to visit this Crown Jewel of Southern CO!
