One of the best sake bars that I have visited thus far. They has quite a variety including Junmai Daiginjo which is considered “top-shelf” or top of the line. Place was very minimalist, urban, hip located right in the heart of New Haven. We were helped right away and our bartender Lily was amazing. She gave us great recommendations and was very courteous and patient. We got the Junmai Daiginjo flight which is about 25 per person with a selection of 3 bottles. The food here was on point! Although small portions, it was really tasty. This place is great for small groups or dates. The kitchen closes at 9 but the bar is open a little later. Definitely a must visit for anyone in the area.

Best restaurant I’ve eaten at in New Haven. The black cod was incredible. The yellowtail was flavorful and fresh. Everything was served beautifully. The service was impeccable. A short walk from the Yale campus.

I have tried both the black cod and unagi bowl which tasted pretty good (in fact I dare say that this is one of the best Japanese food place in New haven; given that most of the Asian food in this city is either unauthentic or inedible).

For what I paid, I got what they are worth. It was definitely not cheap. I had homemade tofu which was flavorful. I had freshly made tofu in LA, too, but they were not such a small amount for the price tag here. Hamachi yellowtail sashimi was fresh, but, again, I had much more for the same price elsewhere. The unagi eel over rice was actually very well done. Curry was nicely done, too. Genmaicha was tasty. The service was pleasant. For lunch, expect to pay $50 per person, which is pretty steep in a college town.

I absolutely enjoy the authentic Japanese cuisine that Hachiroku offers, including their delicious plates, appetizers, and intriguing sake set. However, during my second visit, my favorite yellowtail was unavailable. Despite this, the other appetizers were still delightful. Unfortunately, the dessert portion of my experience was a disappointment.

This review is coming in late because I have been very busy. My boyfriend and I came in for dinner before a concert, and we were blown away by the outstanding food and service. We are already planning on going back. We will be coming from New Hampshire, but to experience Hachiroku again, will be worth every mile. The Pork Belly was to die for, and also the Black Cod. We also had Mushrooms, Salmon, and Wagyu Beef, all delicious and presented beautifully.

Amazing Japanese cuisine! They serve a variety of small dishes: everything was so good. We really liked the pork belly, the different sashimi styles, and the Japanese fried chicken! We would love to come back the next time we are in New Haven!
