I have known this restaurant for many many years. But I have had horrible experience with the good. Their Thai sticky rice is always dry, hard, not cooked all the way, Frozen and has been given to me Frozen before. The owner told me that they freeze it and microwave it…some times they expect the customer to go home with frozen food and microwave it…and pay way too much for the size of portion is given to us. I can go buy the Ingredients for $5 and end up making it for a huge portion…so..im not happy with what was given to me last night. I would give this restaurant a negative 5 stars.

I stopped by for lunch and I ordered the Pad Thai with Tofu which was extremely inedible to say the least. The Pad Thai had a sweet almost sqrup like coating over what can be only described as overcooked burnt noodles and so so Tofu. The worst part was that bringing this to the attention of the server did absolutely nothing and they just mentioned that ‘that’s how the chef prepares it’ . They did not once offer to remake it or offer a substitute nor did they take it off the bill. I’ve had some excellent pad Thai over at Marnee and other places and this was not ‘Pad Thai’. On a contrary note their Panang Red Curry was delicious but overall my experience was not good and this will be my first and last visit.

It use to be a best Thai res in Ann Arbor but not better than Marinee Thai. Recently looks like cook has changed. I would rate it 2 because I ordered spicy Panang curry and spicy tofu fried rice and the food was not spicy(not even mild) and the Panang curry was so watery. It use to be thick and creamy. Definitely the quality has gone down. I would never go back.

I have previously eaten here and been pleased with the food and service. After today’s experience, never again. I ordered an iced tea (which was on their menu) and asked for lemon. Our server informed me that they do not have lemon. Okay, not a big deal. Then I waited 40 minutes for a bowl of soup to come out that was room temperature. Two spoonfuls of soup later, our entrees arrive. I asked what happened to the salad we were supposed to get. They had been forgotten. So we went from zero food on the table to everything all at once after a 40 minute wait (at lunchtime). There were only about 6 table occupied during this time. I had ordered my entree spicy and it barely had any spice in it. My husband ordered his medium, and it was much more spicy than mine.

We have had Thai food from a number of very nice restaurants in the Ann Arbor area. Lotus Thai does not compare with Thai at Siam Cuisine, nor Old Siam, both less expensive. Lotus Thai uses ground up (cutter/canner?) cheap chicken which is ground up, compared to cut chicken which one expects at these prices. The meat texture is like Taco Bell, in my opinion. While nicely spiced, Lotus Thai is not a restaurant I will try again.

Tried to call 3 times for carryout, but no one bothered to answer any of the calls. Ordered Red Curry and Pad Prig which was good. Ordered the calamari surprise 5 small bad calamari for $8. I won’t bother to go there again. Pad prig wasn’t all that good either. Plenty of rice however.

Maybe we picked a bad day, but this was probably the worse thai food I’ve tasted….ever. I generally don’t take the time to write reviews unless I was thoroughly impressed with my experience, b/c a lot of negative reviews are really just relative to the individual’s preference. My husband and I decided to try a new thai place (between ypsi-AA, we’ve been to ~7 different ones), and I really have no words for how bad our dishes were. How do you ruin pad thai & drunken noodles? Well, the pad thai was padded with tofu & the little bit of chicken that was in it was dry/overcooked. The drunken noodles were experiencing a bit of a drought and were smothered in green peppers to the point that the peppers were the dominant flavor. I’m typically not a picky eater, but this was probably the ABSOLUTE first time I’ve ever went to any restaurant and pushed my plate to the side. When the waiter came to check on us (probably after noticing I wasn’t eating) I let him know (something I don’t do) that I was not satisfied with the flavor of my dish. To top off the bad food, I feel I was given poor customer service. All I was offered was another portion of the same dish. WHY WOULD I WANT THE SAME THING? Surely, once I turned that down, I had expectations to have it taken off of our bill. It was not. We paid, tipped, and left. After all that, I ended up in the bed for a full 24 hours, b/c of potential food poisoning. While I cannot say for sure that it was from Lotus thai, I’d be very shocked to find out where it was actually from. Shortly after my recovery, my husband started to get sick. Coincidentally, Lotus thai was the only shared meal we experienced that entire day. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.

This place is so delicious! I especially LOVE LOVE LOVE the Panang Curry, I dream about eating it. I haven’t gotten anything else there cause I always want the Curry. My husband has tried their drunken noodles and said they were good, not the best he has had but good. They are a little more expensive.

The kanom tuay, taro custards, fishcakes, and chicken wings are store bought. The catfish is not catfish but tilapia. The way most of these things are prepared is defrosted and deep fried, or sometimes just deep fried straight from the freezer. Mild+ is the same as mild, medium+ is the same as medium, etc. The kitchen is absolutely filthy. Very understaffed and poorly paid employees. I have witnessed an employee call the police on a customer for requesting new food. I have witnessed a customer asking why her order took an hour AS A TAKE OUT, and seen the boss say “talk to my manager” and hand the phone to a server. If extra dishes are made during the morning they are saved and reheated at dinnertime. Sometimes tables of empty dishes are left uncleared to prevent more customers from being seated, because there are not enough servers. There are so many things broken in the kitchen, the freezer leaks, the wok burners are crusted with 5+years of burned food and sauce, some of the drains do not work, there are tiles missing from the floor in places. These people are cheap and take advantage of their employees. Nothing I stated above is untrue, I feel an obligation to let people know, as a former employee, the food at this place may not be safe to eat at times. I’m amazed we never received any complaints while I was there.
