Man we need more barbecue joints like this. I met the owner and tasted his ribs tips which are hard to find anywhere in Waterloo, Iowa. I live in local Hudson, Iowa and I will be back here any day over going to Famous Dave’s…. 1st Base BBQ is the real deal and flavor, finally a real barbecue joint. To the owner I recommend you add catfish to your menu, then you will have Waterloo on lockdown. So stop by, I recommend this place for good eats.

Came here on a Saturday and it was super busy! So happy to see a new business being so successful already. Rodney smokes all his meat with applewood right outside in a giant smoker, and you can smell it before you even pull into the parking lot. Rib tips, ribs, sausage, turkey legs, you can’t go wrong with any of those! Next time we’re going to order catering in advance to feed a crowd. Can’t wait to try the grilled mac n cheese. Prices were super reasonable. $25 for a full slab of ribs with two sides! Or rib tips $12 for a small and $22 for large (also with 2 sides).

Just great ribs!! Meaty, nice smoky flavor, BBQ sauce not overly sweet or thick, price is reasonable. Great deal!!. Also love the potato salad, a little egg, a little mustard. Just Wow!!

Fantastic BBQ. A great local place with friendly people and outdoor grills. I recommend going early, because they always seem to sell out by the end of the day. Check it out, you definitely won’t regret it.
