I saw El Columpio was rated as one of the best Mexican restaurants in South Dakota, so when we were passing through I decided to give it a try. We did not have time to sit down inside, but that’s alright because they have a drive through window. There was only one vehicle in line ahead of us when we arrived. Be advised that if you use the drive through, there is no menu posted outside. Either look at the menu online ahead of time or ask for a menu at the window. I timed how long it took to use the drive through and it ended up being only 12 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we got our food and were back on the road. The young man working the window was very kind and helpful. The food was outstanding. It’s not the best Mexican I’ve ever had, but was way better than I expected to find in Mitchell, SD. I would definitely come back again next time we’re in the area.

I’m a truck driver and have been to many places and have had many very good enchiladas. This was the best I’ve had. In addition to that, the rice and beans were perfect, not over salted, and very good flavor!

Ordered the Sopitos here, they were good. The horchata was Great! The tables Were missing napkins as they only bring you out one with a fork and could have Used butter knifes to cut up some of the other food that was ordered. Kitchen Is there as soon as you enter feeling all the smoke of the kitchen.

Service and food were excellent! The strawberry tamale was amazing! We even got some frozen ones to take with us and make at home. The torta sandwich was the best we’ve ever had! The kids loved the swings while we waited for our food. It was super clean and well kept! All the food we ordered was great! We’ve eaten at countless Mexican restaurants but this one is by far the best!!!

Stopped in for dinner the weekend of Sturgis, as you can imagine i90 was busy with travelers and El Columpio was packed. That being said the wait staff, despite a post saying they were understaffed, rocked it. Food was fast and delicious. The crew there doesn’t know the meaning of “slacker” will stop again.

Absolutely worth pulling off the interstate for. We were staying overnight next door and went here for dinner. Staff was friendly and accommodating (even to picky kids), the space was bright, inviting, and clean, and the food was excellent. Some of the beat authentic Mexican food I’ve had. Highly recommend if you find yourself in Mitchell, SD!
