Wow wow wow, this is some of the best food in the capital region, and the servers are thankfully knowledgeable about what options are vegan and gluten-free (of which so many items are).

Shwe is a small family run, no frills restaurant. The service is a little slow but you’re rewarded with a delicious home cooked meal served with love. The flavors were delicious and the complimentary appetizers (soup and pickled salad) and dessert (shaved ice) were so kind and welcome, especially in the heat!

What a treasure in Rensselaer! Delicious, unique, freshly-made Burmese food at an absurdly ridiculous price. Ate here tonight with my son and we both loved it. Our first time trying food from Burma. We sampled the tea leaf salad, shrimp curry, palata, and the Mohinga soup. Dessert was complimentary. This place should be packed for what they are serving. I only wish it was closer to my home. Food lovers in the Albany area visit this local establishment run by a mom and son. You won’t be disappointed.

The bestest best. I have been traveling across the United States and tried various Burmese places in Boston, New York, etc and this is by far the most pleasurable experience. The service is marvelous and the taste authentic. I have been here two times and whenever the food arrives, I just dig in, I barely remember to take pictures! Mango salad and tea leaf salad is a must! Their variety of Burmese curries are great too. I recommend coconut noodles (Ohn Noh Kaut Swe), Shan Noodle salad and Samosa salad.

This place is a total diamond in the rough. When my family of 4 arrived for dinner, we were treated like we were part of the family. The food was amazing! And priced right! We fed our family of 4 for under $50!! Each dish was a perfectly spiced culinary adventure. My 1 year old daughter adored the pickled cucumbers and onions they served on the side so much that she drank the juice at the bottom of the bowl. We’ve never had Burmese food before, so we ordered a couple of things and ate family style. We started off with the Shan noodle salad. It was unexpectedly warm and delicious. The pickled mustard greens were a great tangy counterpoint to the noodles. Next, we had the Burmese fried noodles with beef. It was topped with fried egg, and it was everything a fried rice dish should be. My favorite dish of the night was the teriyaki salmon. The fish was grilled to perfection, and the vegetables were an absolute highlight. No sad frozen veggies here! We finished off with a complimentary fruity dessert and fried ice cream.

Really delicious, authentic Burmese food. The tea leaf salad and fish soup are as good as any I’ve ever had. Curries were also very good. If you’ve never had Burmese food before it’s a cuisine you don’t want to miss out on.

So thrilled to hear we finally have Burmese food in the Capital Region ! We visited two weeks ago and we haven’t stopped talking about it since. We had Shan noodle, tea leaf salad, chicken curry, beef stir fried noodles, and every dish was perfectly balanced. Make sure to add that you want the fish sauce in the food – it makes all the difference. The tea leaf salad with crunchy beans was delicious, the stir fry was one of the best we have ever had (not greasy at all), the curry came with a generous portion of meat, and the Shan noodles were so, so tasty.

I have eaten Burmese food in Mill Valley, San Francisco, and the LA area, and was always sad that we didn’t have any in the Albany area. I also couldn’t understand why those restaurants Americanized Burmese food, for example, by adding greens to a tea leaf salad. Therefore, I was doubly happy that we both have a Burmese restaurant now, and that it’s authentic. I also managed to snap up a few photos, because the food looked so good, that we kept just dividing in. The fish soup (mohinga) and tea leaf salad are my staples at any Burmese restaurant I go to, and I loved them here. I also tried the tofu curry, vermicelli, fish curry, coconut soup, and some sort of a fried dumpling, and loved everything. It has the ambiance of a small, school, cafeteria, and the service was definitely of someone first starting out, but both were pleasant. I can’t wait to come back!

I recently was visiting the area and tried this place for the first time. It’s not very impressive from the outside and just has a small, simple dining room, but the food and the service were excellent. I ordered a number of different items and really enjoyed them all. The service was also very good. I chatted with the owners for a while and they’re so friendly. I also don’t want to forget to mention that their prices are very reasonable, especially compared to other places these days. This business deserves to thrive. I will definitely go back whenever I visit the area again. If you’ve never tried Burmese food, I highly recommend it. It was my first time in a Burmese restaurant and I really enjoyed the food. If you already know and enjoy Burmese food, I would also highly recommend it.

Delicious, interesting food 6 minute walk from Amtrak train station. I will be returning every time I take the train to get food for my trip. We ate in and really enjoyed the leisurely pace and the personal service. This is NOT fast food. It takes a while for the food to come, but if you have the time, it’s worth it. This is a family business and we felt welcomed into the family. Excellent prices!
