Anything less than five stars would be criminal for a place this good. They have some of the best Italian food and arguably the best sub-sandwhiches in all of Des Moines. The food tastes authentic and flavourful, the portion sizes are generous without being excessive. The staff are friendly, kind and courteous and the service is always prompt.

If you go once, you will be back. Food does not get tastier then the food served at A Taste of Italy. Try anything on the menu and leave happy. They also have a nice selection of items to make at home. There is seating out front when the weather is nice enough as well.

Des Moines is known for its large Italian family connections who take pride in expressing their culture through authentic restaurants and deli’s. One such place is a small deli called: A Taste of Italy Grocery and Deli ran by Todd. The people are genuine and know their regulars. My combo of beef, provolone and sausage was awesome. The wait was small and the price was reasonable. A great place to stop and take in an authentic taste of Little Italy!

Non-Profit (2nd picture) wins best hot sandwich in the area hands down. It’s a perfect blend of turkey, roast beef, salami, prosciutto, capicola, fontina cheese, Italian dressing, and mustard. The flavor just pops. The House Special (1st picture) is also really good and the perfect sandwich for french dip lovers

First time going today and was extremely pleased. I went in for the Chicago style beef which they were out of but I didn’t even care. I was met with warm, caring customer service from everyone right away. Very friendly and all smiles. I was directed to their menu so that my daughter and I could find something different. My daughter chose The Flood and I chose The Sonberg. Both sandwiches were explained and additions offered. We added provolone on The Flood and Italian dressing on The Sonberg. These two sandwiches were magnificent!!! Absolutely amazing!! I also ordered a side of each of their giardinera and OH MY WORD, they are exactly what giardinera should be. Very flavorful!! I will be returning tomorrow for the Chicago style beef Definitely found my new go to deli spot. Kuddos to all of you. Thank you for such a great experience and magnificent food!! The Flood is top sandwich (hoagie style) and The Sonberg is the bottom.
