Sylvia’s was overall a nice experience. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly. I ordered a Fried Porkchop lunch, with Rice and Peas, and Steamed Cabbage. I also ordered a side of Collard Greens. The Pork Chop was fried perfectly, maintaining its moisture and tenderness, and it was nicely seasoned. It was a thin cut and so good that I wished there were two. But, I had ordered the lunch sized plate. Next time it will be a dinner plate with two! The cabbage was good but, for my personal preference it had a lot going on with added red peppers and herbs/seasonings. I loved the texture but, prefer just salt and pepper. The Collard Greens were good, though of the healthier cooked version, meaning sans fat and oil. The rice was very good. Portions were great for the $6.99 lunch price. The side of Collard Greens was $2.99. It is very hard these days to find a side order of anything under $5, especially for the quantity given. That all being said, I would still glady return and try other menu items. I have a feeling the BBQ is delicious!

Sylvia’s Cafe is truly a hidden gem in the city! I have the $6 Lunch Special whenever I’m in the area. Chicken is right off the grill, a side of cabbage or peas, rice and beans, plus a free soda. A delicious home style meal, great portion size, great service, all for a beyond reasonable price!

Let me begin with I hope my review brings business but that it does not change the service, quality, and servings. The customer service is AMAZING! the people are friendly, the food taste is amazing from the beans to the rice to the ribs to the Mac and cheese even the fries are nice and crispy yet fluffy inside. The sauce is everything too much isn’t enough! Lastly the serving, they are not stingy with the servings even on this crazy economy. I love the music they play as well always have a jam playing.

Today I went to Sylvia’s and ordered take out. I ordered three meals. A BBQ, pork chop, and fish & shrimp dinners. My chicken was hard. I could only eat one piece. I threw it out. My aunt had the fish & shrimp. Her fish was fried hard and the shrimp was fried extra hard. First meal of the day and it was a bad one. Also, I bought a slice of red velvet cake. Food is absoutley delicious! They make their meats fresh on the smoker outside and the chicken, pork, fish are all crispy on the outside but juicy and tender on the inside. A great Caribbean spot in the heart of Opa-Locka. I highly recommend the jerk chicken and ask for extra sauce. It has the perfect blend is seasoning and spice. They have side items from greens, plantains, mac and cheese all hot and fresh starting with lunch at 11am. There is only one hightop bar spot so it is not an eat in type of place but take out is great. Also parking sucks because it is a small strip of stores off of busy 27th ave but the location is easily accessible. Support this small business you won’t be disappointed!
