I love this restaurant – they serve delicious food and have a great staff. The prices are high but they’re warranted. However, we recently ordered to go and were extremely disappointed. We’ve ordered to go in the past and been pleased but they’ve dramatically decreased the serving size. We ordered a $6 side of beans and received the smallest serving I’ve ever seen. I asked the manager and he said it was the same “spoonful” that I would receive in the restaurant. It was significantly smaller than what I’ve received for the same price in the past. Unfortunately, this has sullied my impression of the restaurant. A $6 side of refried black beans, no matter the quality, is just something I can’t stand behind.

I came to Austin to visit my niece. We had Sunday Brunch. While the photo does depict the level of deliciousness she really enjoyed their interpretation of Huevos Benedictos which are two poached eggs eggs over a corn gordita, cured loin and Chile de Arbol, infused Hollandaise and sautéed potatoes and poblanos. I tried something new to the menu which was the enchiladas de jamaica which had Hibiscus Flowers ordered with Chorizo. My niece said she really enjoyed her meal and would come back to order it again.

Such a cute little spot! With excellent, authentically delicious Oaxaca dishes too. The chef was so nice to come and greet all the tables at opening. The café de olla (which comes with free refills) and the hot chocolate are fantastic drink options for brunch.

Came here for a celebration dinner – given the chef’s accolades, our expectations were high. The food was good – we got the duck mole and the sea bass. The sea bass was definitely the best dish – it had a great combination of flavors, the peppers were cooked just enough to still have crisp and the sauce was awesome. The duck mole was a bit underwhelming. I felt like it needed salt and just didn’t have a depth of flavors that one might expect from a mole. Duck was cooked perfectly though. Chips and guac/queso fundido with huitlacoche was delicious too. Cocktails were great. I would go back but I’m in no rush. Do recommend trying it at least once though.

Delicious upscale traditional Mexican restaurant. We had the queso fundido with blue corn tortillas and pork shank. Omar was a wonderful server.

Outstanding Oxacan food in Austin. Each dish is carefully planned..we are visiting from Chicago and looked up on the best authentic Mexican food and El Naranjo exceeded all we hoped for. The 12 hr goat cooked entree cabrito was out of this world and worth taking a flight for on its own..loved the mole w tuna. And the flan was absolutely spot on. We ordered the organcio cocktails with both mezcal and tequila and OMG. Delicious. A touch of dessert for you. One final point- our server Jay was so nice and gave us recommendations to fit our needs.

This place is tucked away and could be easily missed. Definitely make a reservation because the seating is limited. Our server, Julie, was so sweet and took the time to make recommendations.

Had driven by hundreds of times until last week a friend invited me for brunch at El Naranjo. The food was not only delicious but also so much more traditional than what you find in most Mexican restaurants in town. It’s Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. The service was absolutely great as well.
