AMAZING Ethiopian food cooked by one lady! She does it all herself. She will come to the table and ask if you want vegetarian, or not, and bring out a platter of food to share. There isn’t a menu. You get whatever she’s cooking that day. To me, that’s the charm of this place! Be aware, it is very small inside, only one or two tables. This place is awesome though and I highly recommend it!

I’ve been eating here and taking my friends (mostly to impress them with something they’ve never had before) for 2 or 3 years now. It’s always good. Absolutely one of my favorite places in Nashville. Very friendly people and very traditional Ethiopian cooking. 10/10

Easily one of the best spots in Nashville. I took a friend tonight who’s visiting and it was a very memorable dinner. The Injera is perfect. Being vegetarian I can only speak to the vegetable dishes, and they are really divine. Everything is made with love and the vibe is par excellence. I suppose if you are “aggressive basic” you’ll end up having a similar experience as some of the negative reviewers. My instinct is that if you really get the whole owner/cook/server one woman show vibe and like Ethiopian cuisine, then you’ll likely love it. I absolutely did. ॐ

This was our second visit to Awash Ethiopian Restaurant. This time we brought more with us. Everything was so delicious. The beef was just right, the sides (greens, cabbage, and mashed lentils) all tasted great with the beef. We also had four well spiced chicken legs on the platter. Even the little one (10-year old) enjoyed the food.

Best food in the Nashville area without a doubt. We eat there all the time and bring out of town guests everytime anyone comes to visit. The leftovers also reheat perfectly.

Such a Nashville treasure! Some adjustments to the usual restaurant experience are necessary: this is a little like going to somebody’s mom’s house for dinner, in the best possible way. No menu per se, she will just ask if you like meat and spicy food and go from there. Just let Z do her thing, and you’ll be rewarded!

I’ve been to several Ethiopian restaurants and this is the best one I’ve been to. The only employee is the chef, and the only choices on the menu are “meat” and “no meat.” Amazingly fresh food with robust Ethiopian spices. Amazing.
