After a hiking day on Santa Cruz Island, we were so hungry. My daughter wanted Chinese food. We couldn’t find a Chinese restaurant in the harbor. China kitchen is a little further off the harbor but it was good. Thus, it’s worth the drive.

The best there is in Ventura! This is a well-known hidden gem here. I asked a Walmart checkout clerk for the best Chinese in the area, and without missing a beat, she said, “China Kitchen!” I ran over there, and I cannot stop going there since. I love the orange chicken. But I also love the beef with broccoli, string beans with pork, juicy pork dumplings, sizzling rice soup, triple delight over the cripy noodles, and the house special chow fun (thick rice noodles). I recommend them all. The prices are reasonable. The service from Vivian is as good as any service can get.

Vivian is the sole waitress/owner (I believe). She is so sweet. She knows my BF and I by name. The food here is consistently delicious. The price is reasonable. We always order “Dinner A” for $20.95 per person you get soup, 1 fried shrimp, 1 spring roll (per person) and the you get one entree each. MY BF and I share entrees. And have a huge, delicious meal for under $50. And we always have left overs for lunch the next day! Stop in and say Hi to Vivian!!

China Kitchen is excellent. I went for the first time for a late lunch with a coworker and was a little worried when we saw the place was empty. We have it a shot anyway and were extremely pleased with our meals. I don’t know if everybody only shows up at noon or if word just hasn’t gotten out how good the food here is, but the relatively inexpensive lunch specials we had were some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in Ventura county.

Food is great. Vivian, the only person you will deal with, is fake nice. I wish her tasty food would be matched by service you can count on. Instead she’s a bad judge of character and treats people according to HER mood. So it’s safe to say loads of people are turned off by her and she will always be in the way of herself. Get take out. And don’t make conversation. It isn’t appreciated by her.
