Disappointed with the pulled pork. No smoke flavor or bark. Could have done a butt in the oven with the same results. B’que taste store bought. Guess I’ll a trip to Alabama or Georgia to get some real BBQ

You can’t beat anything about James Brown’s Famous Barbecue. The food is way better and fresher and tastier than any of the big-named chain barbecue places. The people that work there including the man himself James Brown, are very very friendly very polite very nice to you as if you’re family. You have to wait a little while for your food because they’re making it to order for you after you place your order and it’s well worth it. Sometimes I take it home and sometimes I eat there just so I can relax and be comfortable and when I eat there I find it to be a very friendly homey atmosphere.

Brisket cooked OK but sliced wrong (my meal was thin like roast beef, and not a 1/4″ cut across full length like usual). Honestly underwhelming both in taste and portion size (~2oz) for the $5.50 it cost. I’m surprised at the other reviews for the brisket. Does not rank favorably with Franklin’s, Lewis’ or Scott’s. Ribs however were seasoned well, great ring and perfect color but the pull was a bit too strong. low scores for tenderness around 4/9. In all fairness I did stop in shortly before closing time (7pm) so they like have been in a faux cambro for some time vs. fresh off the smoker. Approximately $17 total for 1/2 rack ribs and two slices of thinly sliced sad sad brisket. On a positive note, its by far the best BBQ I’ve had in this town but overall that’s not saying much as Sonny’s is a horrible abomination and Cody’s ribs tastes like they are boiled in liquid smoke before being carelessly tossed on a grill. James Brown’s decor is exactly what I’d expect a mom and pop rib joint to look like and the staff seemed friendly and accommodating. Overall B-

If you’re in the Sebring or Lake Placid area and looking for great BBQ’ed ribs travel up to Avon Park and go to James Brown Famous Flames BBQ. I had been trying to find some place that BBQ’ed great ribs in the area. No luck, struck out time after time until I hit James Brown’s rib shack. It reminded me of rib places in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale where there are many good places for ribs. I had the half rack with baked beans and cole slaw. Great ribs and sides…

As a BBQ lover, I really enjoyed the BBQ that was served to us. Please also try their other menus. The place is good. The servers were also friendly and approachable.

Really disappointed. Been going there for years and yesterday they dropped the ball. Lost our order. Took forever. Catfish and Onion rings soggy. Seems like they no longer care.
