The staff, restaurant, service are top notch! The food was mediocre at best. Had the white meat dipped in Slappy Sauce, Mac and cheese and potato salad. Chicken had a burnt flavor about it Slappy sauce wasn’t slappin, Mac and cheese was dry with no cheese. Potato salad was good though more happy with the salad than anything else.

I’m so happy Slappys reopened. The chicken is as good as ever, as well as my favorite sides ( the beans and greens).

A coworker today asked if I wanted Slappy’s…I had heard of it but never tried. The wait was an hour and 15 min…but let me tell you, it was DELICIOUS! That sauce, the Mac and cheese with cheezits! Never had anything like that before and then the potato salad (which I don’t even like) has converted me. Hopefully the long wait is just because they reopened after being closed for so long but who cares I would wait again!

Finally caught this gem opened and not packed. I ordered 1/4 lower chicken w/ the sauce on the side, cheez it mac n cheese, baked beans and potato salad. The Mac n cheese was okay (maybe rethink the name being it had 1 cheez it and tasted mainly of cheese and butter). The baked beans were plain. The potato salad was okay (the celery definitely came through). But the chicken. The chicken (with and without the sauce) is arguably the best tasting fried chicken I’ve had since moving to WS. It was hot, crispy, not greasy, flavorful, and savory.

You will get your money’s worth!!! The slappy sauce in so so good. I got a 1/4 white chicken breast & wing with a side of cheese-it Mac & collard.

My absolute favorite! I eat every part of the chicken which I never do – skin, all of it! And the potato salad and collards are so good. Not loaded with sugar like every other place in town. And who eats those plain dinner rolls? Me! Sopped in every last bite of sauce lingering in the box. From the authentic vibe to the prices to best fried chicken in all the land…. Slappy’s, you win. Worth every minute I stand in line. Proof you are beloved.

We got take-out on the LAST Friday they were open before closing for their remodel to celebrate my hubby’s birthday lunch at home. It was a horribly rainy day, but calling in to make this order, I was welcomed with the sunniest, warm service. I told him that it was my hubby’s birthday and I was ordering Slappy’s for him to enjoy for the very first time ever. They entertained me as I relished how I’d had their food many times and was excited to see what my hubby would think of the chicken. They thought it was adorable, but also a funny coincidence because it was the last full day they planned to be open so we got in just in time – like it was destiny. Anyways, they let me know that I could order the family meal which consisted of a whole dipped chicken, two sides, and rolls wrapped separately from everything else to avoid getting soggy, for $25. What a great value! Due to the distance from my house, they suggested I put the sauce on the side so that it didn’t get soggy from the heat and time it’d have to travel for us to really enjoy it. I’m glad we did that. The chicken stayed very crispy and we just dipped every bite in the sauce they packed for us. My hubby was pleasantly surprised by the sauce’s unique spice and flavor while the sides were also superb. The mac and cheese was baked nicely and the potato salad had generous sprinkles of bacon bits in it. Definitely the best helpings for comparable BBQ joints I’ve had elsewhere in the area. When it opens back up, my hubby’s excited to try the chicken fully dipped next time!

Just visited for the first time since they reopened. It is still just as amazing as I remember. Chicken is crispy and moist and their sauce dip is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. Collards are some of the best I’ve ever had. Almost all the sides have bacon in them, so beware if you don’t eat pork. But as a bacon lover myself, it just takes the flavor of everything up a notch. So glad they have reopened! Well worth the wait.
