We have been told this was a good place to eat, so we gladly met our friends there for dinner. We were also warned it could be noisy at night, which also turned out to be true with happy regulars having a good time. A couple of us had beers, mine being a Guinness Stout on tap. For food, one had a burger (Trap Burger on menu), which is what he normally ordered there and likes. My wife had the Grilled Chicken with a salad. She was happy. The other two of us had one of the specials, Ling Cod Fish and Chips, which was quite good. Service was good and friendly.

Wow! I’m torn. Write an amazing review and reveal a hidden secret or share with the world that this establishment is the epitome of “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Obviously I can’t help but choose the latter. Driving up we were concerned that Yelp had possibly catfished us and started wondering if maybe we should cross the street to the other restaurant. So glad we stayed on our side of the road. The Old Fishtrap did not disappoint. From service to food they were A+. I ordered a Bloody Mary and WOWZERS! It was delicious. Next was their Clam Special. Special it was indeed. Just check out my pictures. Sooooo many clams. We then ordered their Panko Breaded Fish and Chips and Shrimp and Chips. YUMMY! We pretty much had to roll ourselves out. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food. It’s a dive we will definitely return to.

The decor was adorable. Came here for lunch. Had rockfish and chips. The fries were great but the fish was bland. Server was friendly, courteous and seemed like a nice person.

This is easily the best seafood I’ve had. We were especially fortunate to come when they had half-shelved oysters available as a special, and they were the BIGGEST oysters I’d ever had in my life. My partner got the crab cakes – we both agreed that they were the best crab cakes we’d ever eaten. I got the steamed clams and literally dipped salad leaves into the sauce because it was so good.

An amazing local dive with wonderful customer service and great food! We had the fish and chips and prawns, all of which were AMAZING!!! Cooked perfectly; just the right amount of breading, fresh taste, and not greasy at all. Plus the french fries, coleslaw and sauces were excellent with nice portion sizes – overall great bang for your buck! If you’re anywhere near long beach this place is more than worth the trip 😀

Update: This is a nice little bar, clean and the drinks are good. We had the burger and it was huge and delicious and kept us going for the whole day. This is the place to go if you want a really good juicy burger.

We went on a Friday around 6pm. It has a neighborhood dive feeling. Everybody knew each other. Lots of back slapping and gin n tonics flowing. We were made to feel at home.

On 8/3/2020 ordered take out. A very nice lady from Louisiana, great cook too, gave us terrific bacon cheeseburgers. There was fresh tomato, onion and lettuce. The fries were fresh, delicious and abundant. Today, 8/4/2020, we had different people waiting on us. The rudest lady waited on us. The cook did not do good job. First the lady said 4.00 surcharge if you use a card. What? No warning, we were there the day before! The fries were burnt, old and given just a little hand full. The shrimp was over fried, tasted burnt, like the fries. The fried fish wasn’t good and hubby refused to take a second bite. We absolutely like the food at the Fish Trap, but today it was a big miss. I know it’s hard to run a business today and we looked forward to their food for years. Time for a break so they can work on consistency in quality.
