Usually terrific! The Saturday night prime rib looked really good carried past our booth. We weren’t that hungry so we ordered a steak sandwich. Kinda disappointing. Served naked on a hamburger bun. We like this place. Best Rubin sandwich around. Excellent burgers and great chili in season. Gonna pass on that steak sandwich.

Wow. Friday night fish fry. The place was packed. We were seated right away and Brian was great. Orders taken and drinks on the table in less than a minute. The fish was perfectly cooked, tender, succulent and paired perfectly with baked potato, roll and fresh salad. I would have expected it to be loud with the number of people though it was more like a quiet hum, able to easily have a nice conversation. We will be back!

I went in on Saturday, it wasn’t too busy and I definitely liked the friendly service and atmosphere, although it felt a bit weird to be watched over like a hawk.

LOVE this local dive so much, it’s a verb amongst our friends and family. “Should we Laurel tonight?” “Hey I’m thinkin’ about Laureling for lunch…” The prices and the pours are locked it at maximum value and who wouldn’t dig that iconic salmon-pink-colored glow where time feels like it stands still once you walk inside (in the best all-fried-comfort-food type way)?! One time, we brought our nieces and they indulged her passion for pickles by surprising her with a whole BOWL of ‘em – she still talks about that to this day. Oh, and they seem to making their own veggie patties these days which I totally appreciate

Kind of a run down place but maybe that’s what keeps the prices good. We were there for dinner on a Sunday night and it seemed relatively busy. The service was only okay. I think the wait staff was also doing the cooking and bartending so they were maybe a bit tired or something. We’d probably go here again though because our sandwiches were good. My boyfriend got the bacon cheeseburger and I got the grilled chicken sandwich. We also got some wings as an appetizer. They have a pretty good selection of beer too.

You’d usually get a good value for money and good hospitality most of the times. But even though I’m a regular customer, my last few times on Friday nights were really crazy. You would wait for hours before you can get a table, especially if you are going there alone. They have the tendency of accommodating people who came later if they were 3-4 people and forget about you. Once they also forgot my order in a much less crowded day. I thought it was just a mistake. But now I’m convinced about their poor customer service. You have many Friday fish fries in Madison. You really don’t need to sign up for a table at 6 p.m. and then leave at 8 p.m. without having any food after you would figure out people coming way later got their tables but they wouldn’t know when they would be able to accommodate you! That’s crazy!

it was a place where we went when we were college students down the street at Edgewood College back in the mid 70’s. Great food and drinks.

Classic no frills neighborhood bar. Great burgers, old fashioneds, and a surprising beer list. The prices can’t be beat!

Went for the fri night fish fry. Glad we decided on 5:45 as there was already a 10 min wait and quickly increased. The service was prompt and laid back, and the fish was great. The narrow hallway as you enter is a bummer as it’s kind of chaos getting in and out when its busy…glad we barely beat the rush.

After a long time I tasted a good beefy burger. I highly recommend the Laurel burger. The meat was well done(I like it that way), the bun wasn’t soggy and it tasted just right. The fries were okay, nothing great about them. The prices are very affordable. Also, the beer selection is good. A wide variety of local draft beers. The crowd is generally local area family people. Parking in the back is always appreciated in this busy area.
