Was on vacation and found this jewel of a restaurant. Reasonable for a family of 5. Everything we tried was delicious. Out of the week we were there went 4 times to eat there. Had to hit it again, The day we left the cake shake are awesome❣️

A staple for Chicagoland – this location is special because they have Barnelli’s – an addition of Portillo’s that has more offerings (such as pasta).

Portillo’s is the ONE restaurant in Vernon Hills that I must go to every time I’m home from college. I’ve actually eaten here 3 times in the past two weeks before driving back to college. The food is just so good and unique to normal fast food. The Italian beef is a must-have whether as a sandwich or in the signature bowls (I recommend the Chicago Bowl). The hot dogs are so delicious and have poppy seeds on them, which is something I like for some reason. If you are into chocolate, the Chocolate Cake Shake is the best shake I’ve ever had. The chocolate cake alone is amazing as well. And if that’s not enough, even the ribs here are top level! And if THAT isn’t enough, Barnelli’s has pasta and salad and more for those of you in the mood for that. If you are eating inside, you get to feel the old Chicago vibes with music and decorations straight from the 1920s through the 1960s.

I go here all the time either drive through or sit down. Portillos has the best hot dogs and filled shakes. Barnelli’s is a nice addition with the pasta. I’ve been coming here ever since I was 5, and even had a hoco dinner here. The seasonal foods are so worth it. Such a cheap option for Amazing food

Stopped in for a Chicago dog, Onion rings, and ended up ordering another one. The greenest relish I have ever scene. The huge pickle and celery salt with onions and a dab of mustard. No peppers. The place wasn’t busy but it was 8:30 and it looked like it was busy earlier. The onion rings were very good. The chocolate milkshake so thick. We will have to stop in one more time before we leave. But this time order two extra dogs.

Not too shabby! My husband and I moved to Chicago Nov of 2021, and we have been hearing about “Chicago staples” since then so we gave this a try.

Good place to have a decent burger and good hot dogs. They charge extra for peppers, unreal as if the place wasn’t expensive enough. Service is always a bit slow as it is very popular. Depending on the time of the day, it can be difficult to find a table. Usually pretty clean place.

Our go to place for hot dogs and burgers! It never disappoint us whenever we stop here for dinner! The char-grilled Maxwell street polish sausage was delicious and the single cheeseburger was just cooked right and very tasty! The chili cheese dog was very good too, but kinda messy!

Been to this location many times. Fantastic employees (kudos to the lady at Portillo’s that is super enthusiastic!). Food is so tasty- house salad dressing is amazing, veg dog is the best veg dog I’ve ever had (store or restaurant bought). Will be going back again!
