One of the Best New Restaurants in Houston.
Culture Map
ROMA, an Italian eatery in Rice Village, is Houston’s premier Italian restaurant, known for its homemade traditional pastas, its creative contemporary Italian cuisine, and its fine wine program.
ROMA was called one of Houston’s Best New Restaurants by CultureMap when it first opened in 2019. And Houstonia magazine has called it one of their editors’ favorite Italian restaurants in the city.
In 2020, ROMA launched what would become one of the city’s most successful virtual wine dinner programs, often hosting more than 80 guests weekly in their homes as Italian winemakers joined from Italy.
That has inspired Shanon Scott to take his wine program to the next level. Our goal is

PRO’S: Roma Ristorante caught our interest for Houston Restaurant Week’s. Panzanella salad was a winner while pasta courses & main courses less so. All Italian wine list and wait service with valet parking were typical.

Everything about this restaurant for me was a home run. Great service, everyone was checking to make sure you were taken care of. The food was impecable. I got the Casio e pepe which I’ve always wanted to try and it tasted superb. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, I didn’t get that sitting in a chain restaurant feel which I loved. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed the Caesar salad and the pasta I ordered, the ravioli with shrimp. It definitely tasted fresh. I didn’t like the table we were seated at, which was close to the bathroom. Other than that, it was a good experience. The servers were excellent.

Super cute authentic Italian restaurant in Rice Village. We loved our meals and I highly recommend the cacio e Pepe. The service was a bit slow, but we enjoyed the ambiance.

Had a family gathering here after my graduation. They truly surpassed our expectations in every way. The food, the service, the ambiance. They were so organized and on top of every detail. We had a great time! Would highly recommend for a large group!

Another fantastic meal at Roma’s last night! The food, atmosphere and service (especially Felipa) was wonderful as always. If you haven’t tired Roma’s, you are missing out on some of the finest Italian food and wine in Houston. Every time we eat there it’s an enjoyable event. Shanon and his staff really care about you having a great time.

I can’t say enough about how much I enjoy dining outside at Roma. From the small, but cute setup with string lights to the pretty quick service overall, I haven’t had a bad experience yet. It also doesn’t hurt that they probably have the best bolognese I’ve had in town. Hard to even want to try other dishes when that one is so good, but the cacio e pepe, lasagne, and gnocchi are all solid choices as well. For starters, the meatballs and burrata are pretty good, with the salads being decent if you’re trying to play it safe. All in all, it’s the perfect place to go for a nice and quiet dinner in town.

It was my first time dinning at Roma, and it was an amazing experience from the tasty food that reminds me of a tradicional Italian cusine to the excellent staff and service.

My wife and I decided to give this place a try. We parked in the Rice Village garage and walked over since we were planning to walk around a few shops after our early dinner. The walk over from the garage is pretty short. They also have valet parking and it looked like there was some nearby street parking as well. The inside dining area was pretty small. The service was good. The inside noise level was good. It was easy to have a conversation. The food was mostly alright, but not great. The burrata salad was a larger portion size than we were expecting. The pasta dish was tasty, although it would have been nice if it had been full sized shrimps / prawns instead of the tiny baby ones. The whole fish was disappointing. The server scraped the fish meat from the whole fish onto the serving plate and tossed the carcass before we could touch it. If I had noticed what he was doing, I would have requested he just give us the whole fish to pick off ourselves. The fish was cooked too long or too high heat. The fish was on the dry / mushy side. The lemoncello dessert was fine. Probably wouldn’t order it again though. My wife got a shot of the lemoncello. It tasted like super strong lemon infused vodka. Overall, not sure I’d recommend this restaurant over other Italian restaurants in the area.

Our first time visiting but it wont be our last! I can’t stop raving about the food and the service – we started with cocktails and then burrata with arugula, charred cherry tomatoes and a roasted lemon vinaigrette, outstanding! I had the Cacio Pepe with a broiled lobster tail which was presented tableside in a hollowed out Parmigiana Reggiano cheese wheel, outstanding. Jeff had the chicken and mushroom ravioli in a mushroom cream sauce topped with crispy prosciutto, he thoroughly enjoyed it! For dessert we had a caramelized apple tart with vanilla gelato! The perfect ending to an amazing meal for sure!
