I was very excited to finally try Jamaican food, especially a local, family owned restaurant. I went with my wife on Sunday around noon. Only a couple was there watching the Bears game. The server came to our table and was complaining about something. She never introduced herself and when I told her this was our first time she didn’t recommend anything. She gave us ratty, torn menus & walked away. Moments later, an older man with a ponytail and a torn, worn out Harley Davidson shirt gave us water and then stared at my wife in a creepy way as he walked away. I’m used to eating at places less developed than this place so I kept an open mind. We ordered our food. Before our food came, our server brought some square pastry thing. She didn’t tell us what it was. Sadly, I can’t process beef or pork (cruel curse for a foodie) otherwise I get violently ill. I had to ask our server what it was. As far as the food, I will start with the negative and end on a positive note. The shrimp tacos were bland, tasteless and sprinkled with shredded cheese. Luckily I ordered jerk wings and had left over sauce. I used the sauce to add flavor to the shrimp after I took off the cheese. The coconut shrimp were frozen store bought and not Jamaican at all. Now for the positive. The plantains were FANTASTIC! The jerk wings were so tasty and flavorful that I licked the plate clean. If I were to come back, it will be for take out and just come for the plantains and jerk wings.

This was my first time (finally!) here and, as expected, it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I ordered the jerk rib tips which came with rice & beans and I got plantains. One of my pieces was a little gristly for my liking but it didnt take away from the meal at all. I didn’t catch our servers name but she was the only person working and she was absolutely killing it. Wait times were average and she checked in on us a couple times even though she was busy. Will definitely be back again.

Good food, large portions. (My alcoholic drink was good as well.) Mildly spicy and very tasty curry. It smelled so good I forgot to take a pic before eating it. We’ll be back! Curry chicken and shrimp tacos shown.

It was busy but was seated quickly. I got the jerk catfish my wife the jerk chicken. If you get the catfish be careful for bones. Pick at it with your fork to de-bone it. Pictured catfish and chicken plates.

The Jerk Chicken dinner is the Best. I ordered the all white meat. Cool Runnings version of Jerk Sauce has so many layers of flavor with just the right amount of heat. Ask for BBQ Sauce on the side also!

We enjoyed the seasoned plantains and crab rolls as an appetizer. For the main course, we ordered catfish and goat curry. Both were delicious! Our server was friendly and helpful. She recommended the preach lemonade, which turned out to be the perfect beverage for our meal.

We took the entire family all seven children and my wife’s parents. A total party of 11 people. They were very accommodating especially with the children. Our server came back regularly and made sure that we had everything we needed and everything was in tip top shape. The server was very informative as we were on vacation she told us about the local Zoo , about other dining experiences to be had as well as a plethora of things to do in the area. What is very excellent and even though they were short-staffed all of the meals we’re presented to our whole party at the same time and all of the food came out a proper temperature cooked foods were still hot and cold items desserts etc cool. The server was very attentive she had noticed that I had remove the ice from my first drink something I normally ask for but forgot but when I were a s Drank she said that she had noticed that I removed all of the ice from my first one and offered to make the next door without. The overall experience was excellent and we had a wonderful time with the whole family. I would definitely recommend this place anyone where they’re on vacation or someone local wanting a good place to get a regular bite to eat with good drinks and atmosphere.

Very delicious food!! We ordered jerk chicken and chicken curry, and both were very good. The portion was very large, and the side dishes were also very delicious (cabbage, fried plantains). Highly recommend to people visiting the Michigan City.
