be warned: come with a very empty stomach. it was about 18 courses total and towards the end we were struggling.

Upscale tempura is a parade of absurdly high-quality ingredients, many imported from Japan. It truly is the hot analog of an edomae sushi omakase. The cooking at Tempura Matsui felt “subtractive”: the skill is in making the chef but a whisper to make the ingredients shine.

Great experience, my favorite bite was surprisingly the mushroom tempura. Some stuff like the sashimi was pretty standard. All of the tempura was cooked perfectly, however. Service is excellent and attentive. The bathroom is fancy.

My family and I enjoyed our tempura omasake. It’s pricy, but it was definitely something we haven’t had before and a great experience. It started with some sashimi and steam egg soufflé. Then they serve tempuras, e.g. fish, shrimp, snow crabs, etc, piece by price. It was a lot of food, and we were all stuffed. The tempuras were deep fried to perfection with light batter, and never felt too greasy. Love the truffle salt to compliment the tempuras.

amazing food. we came here for our 4 year anniversary. must haves are the maitake mushroom (hen of the woods), snow crab with shiso, squid and the japanese white fish. the egg appetizer was one of the best i ever had. the servers were very well versed in their sakes, and didn’t try to upsell us, they just wanted us to enjoy ourselves. all in all, it was an amazing experience and we will be coming back soon!

I don’t even know where to begin, our dinner was just SO incredible. Everything was so fresh (both the seafood and the veggies) and there was wonderful pacing between each serving. Our MD was wonderfully helpful in explaining what we were eating and giving us directions so we do it right.

$250/person tempura omakase. I love everything, especially the crab tempura and the scallop tempura. The seafood egg custard is great too. The whole experience took about 2 hours. It’s very easy to get reservation on open table. Definitely would love to come back again.

Best tempura I’ve had outside of Tokyo— one of the most memorable meals I’ve had. Amazing from start to finish!

Came here with my parents. The food was fantastic, portions were the perfect amount needed to keep you full but not too full. The service was fantastic! I love how they give you instructions for how to mix and match the sides/salt/lemon juice with each piece, it felt like a fun shared experience. We stayed 2:30hr and did not feel rushed at all.

Certainly a unique experience with a tempura-oriented omakase, but definitely overpriced and honestly you can only go so far with tempura dishes before becoming somewhat repetitive. Service was excellent and the seafood was fresh, but nothing otherworldly that you’d expect with a Michelin-starred restaurant. I genuinely wanted to love this place, but it’s really difficult to justify the price.
