My review is based on the birria that was amazing and tasted like home, it was mouthwatering. My main reason to visit this place was to try their fresh tortillas that they sell by the pound and unfortunately they were out, so I will have to come back again and give you and update.

Wow. Delicious. Seriously, underrated. Best Mexican food anywhere around here. You have to try the birria tacos and/or ramen. We’ve been to other birria places around here and all that was straight up mediocre. Looking at the other reviews here, people are just silly. The prices are as they should for the location and the food is legit delicious! The employees are also super kind. This is located inside Essex market which has tons of seating and an awesome atmosphere to escape the noise of the city.

I had 2 tacos carnitas and an agua de horchata. The tacos were delicious although pricey but the horchata was not home made, tastes like the premade bag horchata powder that you just add to water .

So we went to order and asked if shrimp is the only fish they had did they have other fish. He then suggested we try Carnitas. And I asked what’s that and he said pork. He clearly saw the hijab on my friends head and thought that’s funny. I told him we don’t eat pork. He could’ve suggested beef or chicken but nope straight up pork. Like that’s a incentive joke we didn’t like

I was missing a good taco after a recent move to NYC from California (yes I know there a tons of great places here) but Taqueria Nixtamal did the trick for me. Simple, fresh, great ingredients and a solid tortilla. I will be back.
