I ate twice at Hilo Farmers Market Kitchen during my stay at Hilo. First for breakfast and had an egg sandwich with ham on a croissant. It had pickles and thousand Island dressing and was amazing. I went back for lunch a few days later and had a poke bowl with kimchi cucumbers and purple sweet potatoes as sides. Again, unique and amazing. Highly recommend!

For the authentic experience, this is the spot . Not expensive. Super good traditional Hawaiian food. Like Hawaiians eat here outside dining of course, the pokey was excellent, and the kimchee cucumbers were fresh and snappy. But I was really taken back by the macaroni salad. It was so perfect and simple completely complemented the other two dishes. A great spot for a quick bite.

The Farmers Market Kitchen was a very pleasant surprise. They had a nice selection of local food, but ultimately I went for the breakfast sandwich. It was reasonably priced and a really good portion size. The bacon was perfectly crispy and the croissant was nicely toasted and buttery. I also tried the kalua pork loco moco which was very flavorful and not too salty. Finally, the matcha latte with oat milk was very refreshing and had a bold matcha flavor I really liked.

Delicious fresh light local food including fresh fish and poke. Cool local anbiance red wood building. Eat under an awning cozy picnic table style right in front of the big bang on tree at Hilo Bay. What could be better ?

So the kitchen was closed the but section for the coffee shop and shave ice was open. I had the ice coffee and it was delicious. Their signature coconut creme iced coffee is to die for. I suspect they are more popular for shave ice because that is what it looked like everyone around us was enjoying. Normally iced coffee is a bit acidic for my taste but this place was smooth, not bitter, not sour with a strong chocolate note.

probably the best meal I’ve had on the island. I got a cheeseburger with fries and a drink. Somewhere else, it probably would’ve been $20 but it was only $12 and super good!

I had expected to get some kind of mediocre “American standard fast food” here BUT the food (I ordered Kailua Pork and Dinardaaran) was really delicious and savory and the prices more than fair. Highly recommendable.
