The Crack Shack originally started as a passion project to transform the pristine, local ingredients from the founding team’s fine dining restaurant into a more accessible, casual setting. What started as a humble, open-air chicken spot in San Diego in 2015 has now transformed itself into a nationally-acclaimed eatery with cult following.
The secret sauce behind the crave-able “SoCal Fried Chicken” is the non-GMO, beyond free range birds fresh from Jidori Farms. While bone-in is the staple, the menu boasts unique chicken sandwiches, hearty bowls for the healthy-ish and a Lil’ Cluckers menu kids love and grown-ups feel good about serving.
Based on 638 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.2 stars. Price $$

I had a pleasant experience at this restaurant today. You order as soon as you walk in, and they have the menu on the wall as you walk up like a lot of southern BBQ places do. The young man who took my order was helpful in making sure I got what I wanted, and I asked how the bar (that was obviously attached worked), and he apologized that he was under age and didn’t know. I cashed out with him and walked to the bar. There the bartender helped me pick a beer, and per Utah state law, she had to carry it to my table….interesting. I cashed out at the bar again.

We tried their burgers and fries. Good experience. I had my first burger at US soil here and I think I loved it. Though US burgers tasted different than the Bangladeshi ones but it was good.

Great sandwich! Highly recommend the Fire Bird, loved the chili oil + crispy fried onion bits. The homemade ranch went great on top. Every bite was crunchy. Happy I stopped by on a whim.

Interesting spot. Saw the booth at Utah Beer Fest and decided to give it a try. Had the Cali drip and the pollo asadowas tender. Friend had the firebird, and that chicken looked crispy and good, but was just one of those unmanageably size sandwiches. Also ordered the poutine. Wish it had cheese curds and not just a cheese sauce and no gravy. Just cheesy fries at that point. I’m just visiting SLC, but I’d give it another go. Another side note is the bar. Good drinks and beer selection just a little odd to close out per drink and not start a tab.

Great chicken sandwich! I ordered the “Basic” sandwich combo. Cost was about $20 after 20% tip. Their lemonade and tea is fantastic. They have a sauce station by the soda fountain. Pineapple mustard is exactly what you think it would taste like. The fry sauce reminds me of zaxby’s/ canes sauce but with a bit more pickle brine flavor . Staff was super friendly and the food came out quick. Restaurant and bathrooms were super clean!!!

My husband and I stopped here today for lunch after my eye appt at the UofU. Let me just say…OMG!! I ordered the Firebird sandwich, and it was so huge and freaking delicious. If you like spicy, you will love this sandwich! I decided to get the Ceasar’s salad instead of fries. They also have the “Sauce Bar” and I’ve decided that I love Pineapple Mustard…lol The food is a little on the pricey side, there was only two of us and our bill was over $40 ( for 2 sandwiches, fries, side salad and 2 drinks).

Got the firebird and large fries. Sandwich was large and yummy. A bit expensive. Food was 4/5. Maybe a bit too many different flavors in the sandwich that it was hard to really know what I was tasting. Fries weren’t anything special. Fry sauce and ranch was good!

First time stopping in here and I was pleasantly surprised! Had lunch with a friend, the food was great! The environment was great busy, but fast service. I prefer a different chicken place but I’d definitely come back. They serve alcohol and soda. The sauces were amazing too!

Wonderful food, clean dining area, great lemonade, friendly staff, and outside dining options. Manager (fairly certain he was the manager) came by and took our empty plates and asked how we liked it. It was a great experience and the staff seemed to care about the customers and their experience within the restaurant. I got “The Basic” sandwich and their signature fries. Wonderful condiment selection too!

Wow this place was awesome! The poutine was GREAT, the drinks, and the burger were phenomenal! I have been referring all my friends here. I will be back and it’s worth the drive from Layton. My burger did look a little raw, but I read some of the reviews and was prepared! It was so so good, actually I think I’ll drive there tonight haha
