This place seriously knows how to fry food. It’s fabulous. The fish tends to be rather flavorless in my experience, but the crispy exterior actually makes up for it. Go for their crispy shrimp, they’re better than any seafood place I’ve eaten at. The hush puppies are also delicious.

Note* Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips are mostly found in small “Combo” restaurants with Nathan’s Hot Dogs and Pudgie’s Chicken. Because of this they do NOT serve the Treacher’s meals the way they were meant to be prepared. The original restaurants still use all the proper recipes. Although they are hard to find now, there are still a few open in Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. This is the best Arthur Treacher’s I have been in since the original chain flourished in the 70’s. The fish was battered and prepared perfectly and is larger and tastier than at the “Combos”. The chicken sandwich comes “standard” with coleslaw and Russian Dressing, as it did originally. The fish sandwich comes with a cheese spread and tartar sauce, again, as it was originally sold. At the “Combo” restaurants they come with a slice of cheese. They also serve the original “chips” here and not crinkle cut french fries. I pass through Washington about once a month and I will be stopping here every time even though there is a “Combo” version 5 minutes from my house here in Dover Delaware. The food at these 2 Arthur Treacher’s have very little in common.

I went there last week. This place has went down. Dining room was straightened, didn’t look clean, lighting was dull. The cook seemed nice but she was being called stupid by the little Asian man constantly. he wasn’t rude to me at all but he is rude and insensitive to his employee. I am sure he hired her, but she didn’t understand English well, and if that was the case he shouldn’t have hired her. That was very mean of him to keep calling her stupid and dumb.

Simple and quaint like it always has been, sure its fast food styled fish and chips and yet they get it right where so many bigger restaurants fail by trying to make it so much fancier than it needs to be!

When I visited this place about a year ago, I was served old bread! It was chewy, and I was told that it was supposed to be like that. The food was terrible. Go to the chicken place across from it for a decent meal.
