Founded by Ziegfield dancer Helen Gallagher and the colorful sports enthusiast Jack Solomon, Gallaghers opened as a speakeasy and steakhouse in 1927.
New Yorkers come for the world-class cocktails and incredible steak – prime beef dry-aged for 21 days in Gallaghers’ legendary windowed meat locker. The combination of all-natural dry aging and cooking it to perfection over hickory coals makes for a steak unlike any other found in New York.
Gallaghers’ guests are welcome in a wide variety of attire. We respectfully request that you refrain from wearing hats, shorts and sports jerseys.

One of the best steakhouses I’ve been to in my life. Upon entering, you can feel the relaxing atmosphere. We ordered the steak tartare to begin with. It was made with the traditional style in that it is more greasy but still very smooth to take. Then we had our main dish, the porterhouse. Upon serving, it was already sliced. The server picked one slice from each side of the bone and let you taste it. You can see that the surface was grilled to a beautiful color and the moment you grab one slice, you know it’s crispy. There are many ways to enjoy the steak. You can taste it plainly first to enjoy the original flavor of the meat. Then, you can add a pinch of salt and pepper. Finally, you can try their steak sauce. The sweetness of the sauce is a great combination with the sweetness of steak juice. We didn’t order sides but they looked delicious as well.

I liked the food but the price of lunch course has increased from $29 to $32. First I thought the waiter took the tips more than I expected but I have misunderstood. Should have been much better if server has told me earlier.

Our server Adam was great. He was kind and funny. The other waiters were very attentive to filing up our waters and making sure the glass was never empty. The server in training did make a small mistake while packaging our leftovers.

This restaurant was recommended to me as a must visit when in New York. Followed the advice and was not disappointed. The whole vibe of the place is what a good eatery should be like. It has that decent old school feeling about it. Waiters are professionals and know how to offer impeccable service to the customer. Steaks were phenomenal and so well prepared. You cannot say its an expensive restaurant because what you receive reflects what you pay.

We went on Saturday night. Everything was delicious. The broth in the French onion soup was so flavorful. The steak was extremely tender and perfectly cooked. We asked for our food to go, but they forgot to put our steaks in. When I called, Don was amazing and made sure to make things right. I appreciated their classy service and delicious food. Make a reservation early, they book fast

Simply just fabulous. Typically, I like to try different restaurants when traveling. Yet, once I’ve been to Gallaghers, I went there 3 days in a roll during my trip to NYC.

One and only place to have the best steak. I tried multiple times, and every time is so wonderful. The service is also top-notch. Each and every item is so wonderful. I tried almost every item on their menu, everything is so delicious. I tried in multiple places but it was not that great. If you want to try the best steak with wonderful service this is the only place. They do have Pappy van winkle also.

I realize since it’s a steakhouse, I probably should have gotten a picture of the actual steak and/or other food, but I didn’t. I only remembered to take a picture when the dessert came out. But let this review be your reason to eat here. No one ever says “their food sucked, but let’s stay for dessert.” Also, this place is popular and well known, I doubt my review is needed but here I am confirming it’s delicious. Steak was great, chicken was delicious, and the sides were amazing. Who knew corn off the cob could taste so good. Service was spectacular. The atmosphere is cozy and old school fancy. It was a great experience and definitely worth trying while you’re in NYC.

We walked in on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and sat at the bar for lunch and drinks. Our bartenders/servers, Danny and Tony, were very engaging and provided A-1 service. and We chose three course prix fixe meals that were ample and delicious. If the walls could speak, all of the photos on the walls would tell wonderful stories of all the famous people who have graced the premises.

Regarding steak and other food, totally fine. Stake was nice and onion rings were too big than I expected. Be careful when you order side menus.
