A great bar spot for simple bar food and good cold beer. The burger was ginormous! Fresh toppings. Crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, tangy red onions! The cheese fries were good. The chicken wings were crispy, juicy, and the sauce was really good. A great spot for sports too, tons of TVs, large area, and great staff.

This unassuming bar with a rather pedestrian facade has hands down the best burgers in Durham. Walking in, the restaurant area was empty but the bar was packed. Our initial thought was this is a bar with a few tables and chairs but luckily we were wrong. The bartender greeted us and proceeded to rattle off all the beers on draft. He was amiable and helpful. We decided to keep it simple with bacon cheese fries and build our own burgers. The fries were hot, gooey, and full of real bacon goodness. The burgers were cooked to order, juicy, and topped with our choice of toppings. The beers were cold and they kept coming. The Tavern is a simple, no frills restaurant and bar but the service and food are incomparable. Definitely treat yourself to dinner at The Tavern. We plan to go back for game day.

It’s really a fun place to socialize. There are a few games you can play and shoot pool. I ordered a fish sandwich with potato chips…it was delicious! The drinks were really good too!! Service was fast and friendly.

My husband and I were visiting from Denver and found this place not too far away from our hotel. Awesome service, great place to hang out. Pinball, skeeball and Golden Tee were pretty much my main focus. We met the owner, who was also awesome. It’s a perfect campus bar. Definitely fills up later at night. Next time we’re in Durham (where my husband is originally from), we will absolutely visit.
